Copper Base Gasket

Bit quite at work, just having a look around on ebay.

Came a cross copper base gasket that'll fit my engine. Anyone ever used them?

I like the idea as they can be reused after annealing.

i use them on one machine, andy, a 650

it's worked fine for me. rocker box gaskets as well. i anneal them and then spray them with copper-based gasket cement before i put them on. check th ethickness. they can be cut from anything.

Thank you, that's very helpful. What thickness do you recommend? The one I was looking at is 15 thou, which I understand is very thin.

The thinner, the better. Typical thicker ones lower the compression slightly, which is USUALLY not desired.

theres no combustion pressure under there so thin should be fine. mine is 0.021, iirc, 0.53mm.

be sure to anneal it, even if new.
