I'm planning to do a 2 or 3 week trip this summer up north and I'll be camping most of the time. I'd like to keep my cell phone charged up on the road and am wondering what the best way to do that is. I can buy a battery pack that will give me an extra 2 or 3 charges and then just charge that and my phone when I have a chance.

Or, I could rig a charger to the bike and run it right off the battery. Just haven't decided which is better and wondering what others think, or have done in this spot.

I just use the accessory socket to plug my phone for a charge. I've looked at some of those battery pack electronic chargers but haven't purchased one yet. I will say the battery pack is on my list of items to add to my travel pack. I also use the battery tender cables to power accessories or run my Garmin off of. I have a accessory/cigarette lighter socket that is powered off of a pig tail I made for my battery tender cables.

What ever you plan to use, be sure to unplug it when the bike is off or wire it to a power source that is only powered with the bike running.

I thought charging it off the bike would be more convenient, but then I have to consider where I am going to install the cigarette lighter so that I can run the charger to my phone while I ride. If it means the lighter and a phone doc beside it with a charger wire, it starts to seem easier to just have a spare power source.

I guess each system has its advantages.

+1 Tony is spot on on all counts.

Easy to fit yourself on in a convenient spot. I for one will fit it under the seat, and charge the phone while riding, but that's me I don't need to use my phone every two minutes to update farkbook and so on.
Some of the cables come with a handle bar bracket, very handy.

This looks like a good option. If it fits under the seat with the phone that would be ideal. I don't like a lot of extra wires and stuff on the outside of the bike when I am riding. Will look and see if I can find one from a Canadian distributor.
