At this time of the year we always at risk of bush fires around our city. Yesterday we noticed heavy smoke coming from the valley behind our house and as the day progressed the sky got darker with the thick blanked of smoke.

It seems that this was a big one and only our first one this season, with the drought we have been having over the past year we can expect more of the same as summer rolls on.

I always think of the small animals that get caught up in this. The one year we rescued a small deer that had become trapped against a house wall as the fire started closing in on it. We caught him and placed him in back yard of the one residents house along the bush line. Once it was safe we let him go back into the bush or what was left of it.

So sorry to see these tragic pictures,it's not just the loss of property but the whole landscape, wildlife etc.
Very,very sad to see.
Stay safe!

So sad to see everything people work for all their lives go up in flames like that, we were under a burn ban a few days ago and were lucky enough not to have any fires we could not handle. No one can understand a fire like that unless they see it in person. Its sort of like the hurricanes we have on the Gulf Coast, you really don't understand what they can do until you get caught in one. Keep a close watch on those Dave!

This past summer was one of the driest on record here and water wells dried up and lake levels went down.
The lake where I have a cottage was the lowest I have ever seen it in over 50 years.
There was a ban on fires and forest travel, but we were lucky and didn't have any forest fires.
As much as we may hate snow, it's what gives up much of our water supplies if we don't get a lot of rain.
Last winter we had very little snow and that resulted in the low water tables over the summer.
Levels are still not back to normal.
