Yes, Woolworth's in North America were commonly called the "5 and Dime Store" (and locally: G.C. Murphy Co). They weren't known as a quality place at all but a place that did have good prices and carried almost anything.

Do you have WOOLRICH coats? Woolrich is a coat company here in Pennsylvania.

I remember it well along with Woolworth.

Growing up we had Ben Franklin 5 & Dime, Morgan & Lindsey Dime Store and Gibson's. Woolworth was in the big city for all the rich people along with TASCO, KMart and Howard Brothers.

We had Gibson's in Florida, too. They later went out of business here and were bought by JM Fields which also disappeared.

I grew up in Colorado and we had Woolsworth and Newberry 5 and dime stores there. loved going to their lunch counter for sundaes

Yes, different areas had different stores, although Grants and Woolworth were pretty much nationwide and in other countries, too.
