Bowhunter encounters 400 pound bear:y93:

"As soon as I turned, I made eye contact with the big bear already less than 180 feet away and walking quickly towards me. He looked twice my size and was already close enough to hear him huffing and see the flies swarming around him. Coming straight at me his mind was made up. No chance for me to leave; no chance to even stand up!"

When I was in Jasper National Park two years ago I watched black bears climb trees.
I always thought climbing up a tree would be safe if confronted by a bear, but not anymore!!!

I used to bear hunt here in Florida back in my teen years - but not with a bow! I want something that goes bang with smoke coming out of the end to tangle with a bear. I have shot them at less than 100 feet, which is not unusual in the dense Florida woods. I also carried a side arm when bear hunting.

I am glad he survived the encounter to tell the tale.

Hmmmm...i dunno. To me the story just doesn't seem likely. I mean, a bear can run 40 MPH. Even much slower i would think he'd be all over the guy from 180 feet long before he could notch, release, and HIT 6 times in a row, AND while in a frantic rush to shoot for his life ! Just seems unlikely unless he's the calmest, coolest and best archer on earth. If he'd at least said he missed once or twice i might be inclined not to be so doubting. Am i being too critical? Just seems like movie stuff to me. But at least he didn't say he was jumping onto a truck from a train car at the time tho. :y2:
