It worked!!! The local Triumph place didn't have a replacement bolt and my Bike Bandit order got put on backorder so I went to the local fastener store and bought a 10.9 grade bolt in the correct size. Got the bike back together and the engine sounds fine now. I'm so relieved that this was an easy fix. Thanks to everybody for the help!

Glad to hear it was a relatively easy and inexpensive fix. Nice work.

Been riding the bike around the block. I'm so excited to get this thing legal on the road. I know I still need a new battery and I'm having turn signal problems. Does anyone know if the flasher relay makes an audible ticking noise when it's working? The turn signals aren't blinking and I'm wondering if I have a bad flasher relay or just a bad ground somewhere.

I bought a WalMart battery YEARS ago for my Trophy when I was out of town and discovered it was bad. That battery has lasted longer than any battery I've bought for any motorcycle before!!

As far as the flashers go: Yes, there is a definite clicking sound when the turn signals or the 4-way flashers are turned-on and the sound comes from right behind the display area. I don't hear it with my engine running and my helmet on, but with the bike off and sitting o the stand, I hear it loud and clear.

OK I'm reviving this one because I have a 95 thunderbird that has a weird clanking noise at idle. So this could match. I've been through everything. Rebuilt carbs, valve adjustment, timing check. I am new to wrenching and I was hoping for some clarification on the process for this check. Did the clutch need to come out? The haynes manual is suggesting so to get to the alternator/starter drive shaft. It's either that or I have to split the crankcase, which does not seem to be the move here. Any help us greatly appreciated!

And my bike falls within the VIN range.
