May the bastage rot in hades ! Can't believe what this jackass just did. I just got a raise 2 weeks ago, which for me is a once every 8 year thing. I finally felt i could breathe a little easier instead of living paycheck to paycheck. Arnold just signed a new tax law for california which will take 10% of my paycheck. the raise i just got and this new tax combined will leave me with less money per check than before the raise. thanks Arnold you p#$%k !!!! Sorry, but i am as pi$$ed as i get right now and i had to vent. God i hate this frickin state, and that idiot governor. Wish we had Gray davis back....no matter how bad he was it was better than this idiot.

A 10% tax increase on income is a huge amount. How is it warranted???
This sucks!

I'm on the other side of the world and happy to be corrected if wrong. What we get on our news is that California is broke, it's a matter of increasing tax or not paying people like police, doctors, teachers, firemen, you know all of those that are unnecessary.

Just rereading my post, it reminds me of the Russian policeman that said, "we pretend to work and they pretend to pay us".

My mother likes to quote the old saying,
"For feelers the world is a tragedy, for thinkers it's a comedy".

So far we in Australia are doing well so I can still smile and shake my head.

Up here in Canada we get all the US commercial and news TV channels so we get the same news you do. From my casual observations California is broke.
You might also be interested in the fact the California has more population than all of Canada which has only 33 million - and in spite of the recession - we're doing very well, thank you very much.
In Canada we pay a Goods & Services tax on every item we buy except food. Here in Nova Scotia the G & S tax is 13%. The tax added to gasoline is about 45%. Locally, a litre of gas is $1.07 - which is about $1.00 US.
Yes, we're taxed up the ying yang, but somebody has to pay for our universal health care.
Last summer when I had my shoulder replacement surgery, subsequent medical care and physiotherqapy, it didn't cost me a penny out of pocket.
I know how much Americans are death on taxes of any kind, but in the end somebody has to pay.
But I didn't say you had to like it.

10-4, I hear you on that one!!!!!!!
We're not immune to "questionable" spending either by our various levels of governments.
It's amazing how power and access to money corrupts!
We have had our own patronage and money scandals too and slowly, one by one, they're heading for the Iron Bar Hotel :ya2:

Actually, you'll get that money back (hopefully) when tax season rolls around in April Dazco......

California takes interest-free loan from working people

schwarz-totalrecall.jpg

As if working people in California didn’t have a tough enough time, they are about to see their paychecks get a little lighter, courtesy of their political class in Sacramento. In order to help close a budget shortfall, the state will increase withholding from paychecks by 10%, in essence forcing every working person in California to make an interest-free loan to the state:

Starting Sunday, cash-strapped California will dig deeper into the pocketbooks of wage earners — holding back 10% more than it already does in state income taxes just as the biggest shopping season of the year kicks into gear.

Technically, it’s not a tax increase, even though it may feel like one when your next paycheck arrives. As part of a bundle of budget patches adopted in the summer, the state is taking more money now in withholding, even though workers’ annual tax bills won’t change.

Think of it as a forced, interest-free loan: You’ll be repaid any extra withholding in April. Those who would receive a refund anyway will receive a larger one, and those who owe taxes will owe less.

But with rising gas costs, depressed home prices and double-digit unemployment, the state’s added reach into residents’ regular paycheck isn’t sitting well with many.

Think of it as theft. Most Californians won’t be as sanguine about getting their tax refunds next April, not after watching the IOUs go out this summer from Sacramento. What happens when April rolls around and the state still doesn’t have the cash? Do they confiscate the refunds and promise to pay them back in 2011?

This all starts with state leadership unwilling to make the tough decisions on cutbacks in the massive state bureaucracy. Instead of cutting their own budgets, they’re cutting the personal budgets of all Californians by seizing their assets without compensation. Golden State residents should ask themselves why they put up with a group of politicians who claim to be unable to reduce state spending but have no problem dipping into the pockets of Californians who actually work for a living.

Next November, Californians should conduct a full-unemployment program in their state legislature, and “withhold†100% of the salaries of the current political class.

Yeah, i jumped the gun on this one. I completely misread what it was about and even tho it's a Ca tax i spaced and was thinking 10% of my paycheck. So it will likely not be enough to buy lunch more than a few times. I'm relieved if not a little embarrassed. Oh, sorry about putting it in the wrong forum Dave....i always forget this place has a seperate one for ranting.

Well, actually only 10% increase in my state taxes, so thats really nothing to worry about. probably 5-10 bucks a check, and i don't mind knowing i'll get it back anyways. I just hate the idea of having so much taken out that i don't see the raise i got till the end of the year. But thats not the case.

Now excuse me....i have a British bike rally to attend !! (anyone in so cal it's today at hansen dam, ride starts at 10am)

As Kevin stated, there has to be a bill payer. However, there does not have to be that many bills. Politicians in this country buy votes via entitlements. Someone has to pay for those entitlements.

I lived in Arizona for several years, but had to move back to the South . Arizona was just too close to California for me.
