I have to go in late today to have several pulled, and one has an extremely bad infection. I was there yesterday and he told me don't worry i won't feel any pain. But last time i had one pulled it too had an infection yet not nearly as bad, and the dentist told me pain was inevitable due to the infection. And it DID hurt horribly. So i wanted to see if anyone can tell me thier experiences so i can determine whether i should cancel the appointment for a later date to give the antibiotics a chance to clear it up first. He kept assuring me this is best because then they can heal during the course of pills and that will make it heal better. But as bad as that last one hurt, this infection is so bad it's painfull just to touch the area w/o even putting pressure on it. So i cannot understand how it woulnb't be unbelievably painfull. That last one several years ago that hurt so bad was not only no where nearly as infected, but he shot me full of that stuff numerous times checking me for pain after each injection and it never felt numb enough, this because of the infection according to him.

Do you think he was just a lousy dentist and this guy can do the job w/o pain even when very infected or should i cancel and do this friday? (the next possible opening)

My missus had a lot of trouble with her teeth just before we left on holiday.

There was an infection and he still pulled the tooth as anti biotics weren't working. It was much better afterwards, although he had to clean the area a few days after the pulling though.

I suffer from dry sockets so I'm not keen to get a tooth pulled. If you're not sure about dry sockets ask your dentist. VERY painfull!

He told me if that one i had pulled before was painful, the dentist didn't do the right thing. He was adamant that there will absolutly not be any pain. So i will trust him. I just cannot wait till this is over. Canceling would have meant more days of waiting for this torture. Even with no pain i'm scared of this...the though makes me sick !

If you have an infection apparently the anaesthetic does not work that well this is what my doctor told me when he needed to cut on me one time :ya2: Now I have had my fair share of bad experiences with dentist so I won't even go down that road

then why is he telling me this ?! Man, i hope your doctor was wrong. But that seems to be the case, and if so it would mean ungodly pain. So if that happens i'm stopping him and doing it at a later date.

Well, i'm sitting here with a mouthful of gauze and blood where some teeth used to be. Wasn't as bad is it could have been but i've certainly had far more pleasant moments.

I am sure glad it was not to bad and it is over with. I had a tooth pulled that was badly infected. Once the dentist got the tooth out, It healed rather quickly.

Yeah, it's over fast and no pain tonite at all even with no pain meds. Theres more bad stuff coming tho....deep cleaning, then i need to talk to him about replacement alternatives because $3000 per implant is just way too much. I need at least one and preferably 2 replaced to make chewing normal again. then the possibility another tooth will need either to be pulled or root canal. i pray for the latter if i can't get lucky and need neither. But at least the worse part is over.

your a tough t/bird riding biker dale, who needs teeth? :ya2:
seriously tho, no vigorous rinsing of the mouth for a day or so or you'll risk those dry sockets and like G said, there no fun.

You could buy a helluva fancy blender for $3000.00 and no more dentist visits. :D

I was at sea on a tin can, no dentist, and had to wait until we got in to port. I could not open my mouth by then, but went to the base dentist and he was an old four striper and yanked my mouth open and had to cut two wisdom teeth out. Damn that hurt and after that I had to go to the base sick bay for shots in the rear end for a couple of days. I don't envy you Pard.

Dave

What do you mean? they told me not to but never said why. But i did because i had to eat something and wanted to get the food out. What are dry sockets? Are you saying this is a permanent condition i will get from having rinsed?

Now i have to figure out how to fill the one space i need to chew. Anyone have any thoughts on partials, permanent and removable?
