Well around 1978 or so I was given a bottle of Dom Perignon and have been storing it every since doing the dark cool place and rotating it every now and then. Today I noticed it has started leaking around the cork :y13: CRY I see that a 1978 bottle is listed for around $479.12 :y10: Moet & Chandon - Dom Perignon

Dave.... it is either good or off. And there is only one way to find out. Does the $480 cover a leaking bottle? And if you sell it, what are you going to do with the cash??

Your call mate!!! :y2:

The thing is it has move value to me unopened than anything else even if I cannot drink it I suppose. I was really never going to open it or sell it and that does sound stupid I suppose.

I've never been much of a fan of the bubbly stuff or anything fermented from the grape, well except for MadDog 20-20 back in my college days so I'm not a good person to comment on your bottle. But. . . you knew there had to be a but in there . . . with it leaking could you find a buyer? 10 or 20 years from now, if you don't drink it and it doesn't continue to leak, what would it be worth? Would it still be good to drink in a few years since it is leaking now?

As I stated earlier, I'm not in to wine but when I did buy it I didn't waste my money on those inferior brands that used corks to seal the bottle, I went with the better wines that used a metal screw on cap. :y2:

I saw a show on TV once, they (professionals) were opening, testing, topping up and resealing wine. I don't remember if it was gassed or flat, Mr. Google will know.

Dave, since it's already seeping at the cork, DO NOT open it. If it were me, I'd put it on eBay, note that it's seeping and sell it! Otherwise, store it with the cork end slightly downward and turn it often and maybe in another 10 years it'll go for close to $2 000!
