Looking for personal experiences and insights.

Am in the process of selling my 2019 800 xrx so I can buy a 2023 900 GT Pro. I know the saddle will be higher which is fine.

Curious if anyone else has traded from the 800 to the 900 and if you would do it again. And, what after-market changes/enhancements you have made to the bike.

Thanks

Windy

You may miss the smoothness of the older Triumph triple. I love mine and may have a hard time looking at the new 1200 or 900 Tigers when it come time to replace my TEX.

My B.I.L loved the smoothness as well - before he upgraded to a GS1250. For me, I initially struggled with stalling the 800 after coming to a stop. I disliked how easily the bike rev'd and I had trouble finding the right friction zone location. The 900 seems much better in these aspects - more low end torque and less prone to revving. I find the 900 engine sound much easier to "interpret" as well.

I do wish the 900s had a key fob for the keyless ignition like their big brothers.

Thanks Qship!

My 850 Sport hasn’t said anything to me in any language , but it is the least expensive model so missing a few extras is to be expected .

I agree with the smoothness issue , but it wasn’t a dealbreaker. I find I run the 900 at a lower rpm for some reason, maybe it just sounds happier 1000 or so lower. Big pluses are the heated seat, shift assist, led lights, tubeless tires, TPMS. The only thing I’ve changed is the skid plate, and all I did there was add another layer of 3/16ths to the existing plate. Full disclosure; I kept the 800 because I wasn’t sure the new bike was going to be as bombproof. My 800 has 80000k on it and it has never been in the shop for anything, it’s been completely submerged and although it complained it still started and I was able to ride out of the water hole and into the next .

Thank you - 80000K and you kept the 800. Do you ride both equally or which one gets most of the attention?

Cablemouth,

With all those k's, did you add tank pads to the side and a center tank protector? I will add these to whichever bike I end up with. Looking for input about the best way to go.

No tank pads or protector on the 800 just a 1/4” plate to mount the rear box or bicycle rack. A 12v outlet for my jacket and a phone mount. Both tigers are white so scuff tend not to show.

Well the 900 has about 35000 on it now so it is getting a lot of use. Also the 800 is currently in a different city.

I should also point out the 900 seems to hookup in the gravel quite well maybe due to the firing order maybe due to wishful thinking?

That is the primary reason that they switched the firing order/crank phase as it allows the rear tire more time to "hook up" between pulses. That's from all that I have ead anyways.

Ended up buying a 900 GT Pro today!
Congrats. Sure you'll be happy. Haven't heard anything bad except for the mild vibration compared to the 800s, and that's not getting much attention or negative reviews, that I recall.
When do you take possesion?

Hopefully, sometime week - maybe even tomorrow. Our weather in Portland (OR) has been terrible, so no sane person is riding. The dealer will deliver the 900 to my house (4 miles from the dealer) and pickup the 800 - no charge. I have the luggage racks and black Expedition cases on order. Also buying a crash guard from SW Motech just in case.

Just need to get 600+ miles in before April when I head to California for a 3 week tour (3-3,500 miles). May have to ride in rain and snow flurries to get it done. :(

Can some one explain the difference between the firing orders of the 900/800 . Not the degree difference stuff ,I get that , but the 123 / 321 stuff , I’ve never seen that explanation done in detail.

You like every thing ,that’s good but still waiting for an explanation…

Great video of the new triple differences. Hadn't seen this one yet. Thanks for posting this, @The_Eccentric
This also applies to the newer 1200 if anyone wasn't aware already.

That’s the best explanation I seen so far but it still leaves me baffled . Both cranks fire side , center other side irregardless of which side you start with. If you start the 1/3/2 at the other end it’s firing 3/2/1 ,side , center , other side , repeat . If you had a 4 cylinder that fired 1234 and you could switch 2 and 3 and get a different firing order , 4231 or 1324 depending on which side of the engine you want to start with , but with the triple we don’t another center cylinder juggle with . They can call it a 3/2/1 if they like but to my mind it’s the same as the old crank . Side , center , other side , repeat . Just saying ….
