Well, I picked up a used 2014 Tbird Commander with 30k miles and have encountered a bit of a problem. The Coolant Over Temp light will come on at times for about one minute. This happened 3 - 4 times during a 15 mile ride (mix of traffic and 50 mph). I checked the coolant level (good) and verified the radiator fan was coming on.

The one thing I discovered is that the bike is equipped with a Power Commander V. Could this be a potential cause of over heating depending on the map in use? In any case, I plan to take it off as the bike is more than fast enough for me stock.

The other possible causes I can think of will probably require a trip to the shop :( to diagnose. So hoping I can find a fix that avoids a shop trip.

- Old coolant. 30k miles does not seem too long to go on the coolant.
- Bad thermostat
- Bad temp sensor
- Other?

Thanks, loopd

Power Commander could be the source of your overheating. Cheap fix to remove and try riding again. I wouldn't go to the dealer with it on if you hope to get reasonable response from them as they would just blame it on the Power Commander probably.
Remove and try the 12 Minute tune. Ride and see what happens.

dealer will likely know there was a power commander on it due to the extra bung on the exhaust for the PC's sensor. I put a pair of custom wheel adjusters on mine that a machinest with a Tbird made and was selling to other owners. Far better quailty that lets you adjust the wheel easier and more precisely. When i took it to a dealer he noticed some chipping on the edge of my belt and noticed the aftermarket adjusters and proceeded to tell me they were to blame for the belt issues. I tried to tell him thats not the case but he insisted even tho the chipping took place well before the adjusters went on ! dealer mechanics know everything. :y34:Anyways, point is you're right....they'll blame it on the PC if they notice the bung. They must hire their mechanics using a dart board. ROTFL

Update on the outcome. I removed the Power Commander and the problem with Coolant Over Temp light is resolved. Not sure exactly why but suspect that the Power Commander was interfering with the temp sensor signal as the temp sensor "passes through" the Power Commander.
