Hi All,

I wonder if anyone could shed some light on a problem, if indeed a problem it is, I am experiencing with my 2014 T100 Bonneville.
I bought the bike second hand last year but hardly used it at all due to a house move. Have now settled in and have started using the bike regularly only to notice that my range doesn't go beyond 150km on a tank full, (10ltrs) reserve light to reserve light. Is this normal consumption with this model? I must add that most of my driving is in rush hour traffic.

Many thanks,
Albert

Gday mate. That sounds a bit thirsty to me. My mate with a new speedy gets 200 km before the light comes on but that is gentle country kilometres. Maybe if you get some more answers you may find its just that little tank.

Consumption does seem to be a bit high, but if your trips are mainly in traffic then expect to see a considerable increase in fuel use. My T100 only gets to see country roads without traffic and as I'm not at all an aggressive rider these days I can easily get 70 MPG - which Google converter tells me is about 24 Km/L.
Might be worth taking a look at the sparkplugs - central insulator should be a lightish brown or straw colour for correct mixture. Take the bike for a steady run on clear roads when you get a chance and then compare the range. Don't trust the fuel gauge too much - fill the tank to the top - ride 50 or 100Km and then refill - easy then to calculate fuel use.

Have the sprockets been changed to a more aggressive ratio. Stock is 18 front 43 rear. The worst mpg I got is 48mpg with a pillion rider you appear to be achieving 42 mpg you solo or pillion

Where the bike sat for quite a while, I would consider a good fuel system cleaner and maybe some liberal throttle applications(where and when allowed, of course).
OP has not been seen since he posted this but just in case he decides to check back in, Thanks for all the responses.

Hi All,

Thank you all for your replies and pointers. I have been away from the Island for a bit riding my 1927 AJS in Tuscany and Sicily so was dealing with totally different problems for a while.

I am trying to avoid the congested roads as much as possible and take the scenic routes to work and back, although I still have to do some traffic jams, here in Malta it's unavoidable as the country is one big constant jam. But it has helped to some degree as I am managing 185km on a tankful from reserve light to reserve light coming on. Will be checking the sprockets just in case someone's messed about with them, and no I don't carry a pillion. I do all my riding solo. Getting to the sparkplugs on this bike is a bit of a nightmare as there is a sensor on either side which make dropping in a plug spanner very difficult unless there is some other way it can be done, mine a T100.

Best wishes and thanks,
AGP
