Les, that is an interesting article. Thanks for posting it. I have long realized that bikers are more prone to be risk takers. Look at the the number of aircraft pilots (especially military) that ride as well as the number of first responders (police and fire personnel) and military personnel in general that ride. A lot of automobile race car drivers are avid bikers. I do believe that risk taking is genetic.

Well, my Grandfather got me my first bike. However many of my friends where also riding at the time. And it was partly a natural progression from a regular bicycle. I guess I hit the "trifecta". But judging from the way I "used to" ride dirt bikes......some "danger gene" MUST be to blame. So Mom if your reading this those numerous trips to the emergency room where really YOUR fault after all not mine ! :y2:

I laugh about it now Hemi (as does She) but we where literally on a first name basis with the staff at Aultman Hospital Emergency Room. And my Orthopedic specialist Dr. Glazier (how many teenagers have one of those) took us aside one day and opened the curtains in his office, pointing to the new Mercedes in the parking lot and said "your insurance company paid for that"!!!!!!!! Needless to say that was about the end of my dirt bike racing career. THough I managed quit a few breaks on other wheeled objects, bicycles, skateboards oh and ski's.....and football.......dang no wonder I am 43 and feel 90. Paying the debts of an ACTIVE youth. :y2:
I am much more careful now though, and living proof of the adage "To be old and wise you must first survive young and stupid."----still waiting on the "wise" part.

I know what you mean Key. . . My mom was talking with her sisters one day and I overheard her say she was surprised that with three son's things had been pretty mild in the injury department. . . she never should have said that. I tore my ankle up pretty bad and the Dr said the only thing that would fix it was to amputate it or live with it, laid the bike over at near full speed and messed up my leg (same leg as the ankle), fractured a couple bones in my foot (yes, same one), tore up the few tendons in my ankle that weren't tore up before, shot myself in the foot with a nail gun (other foot) and a whole host of other injuries requiring a Dr visit. I told her it was all because of what she said but she said it was because I couldn't take directions. . . Hey maybe that's where my ride route problems come from.
