The nut wasn’t tight at all.. the crack did not open that I saw.. but the inside of the lip is broke also where the small cover goes. The po had packed the opening with silicone to keep it from leaking..

Hmmmm…it would seem all the case parts that are cracked at minimum should be welded. I guess, I wouldn’t try forcing anything at this point. If it was my project, I’d start taking the whole motorcycle apart at this stage. Figure out the best way to repair parts and rebuild it from the ground up.

I believe that is the best course.. I’m going to pull the tank and remove the top of the motor first..
since I don’t weld aluminum or pot metal… it would probably be cheaper to buy a good used primary cover..

Save the old cracked parts, they can be welded and one never knows when replacement parts will be so hard to find that sending it out will be easier and less expensive.

The nut that I showed on the crank, is it possible to strip that if I overtighten it? I’m trying to break the pistons loose but I believe it’s not gonna happen…

I’d be careful with everything. No experience with what you have there, but anything is possible with an engine that is old. How long has it been since the engine last ran?

If you mean the threaded end to your crank... NO! , force that, strip it, and it knackered.

I had a severe rusty Triumph. Spent weeks trying, turned out the pistons had dissolved and fused to thick rust on cylinder walls. So be prepared. I couldn't get cylinder head off, nor cylinders off, everything was so badly fused together.

Your next step might be removing cylinder head. If it looks salavagable inside, place a lump of timber on top of pistons, and wack very, very hard.

I plan to start disassembly this week…
I’ll try to post pics as I go…
I might just start a new thread..
Thanks for all the help… I’m sure I’ll be asking for more soon.. lol

that threaded bit on the end of the crank is a stud that can be replaced. best not to destroy it tho.

can you put up pictures of exactly what is cracked? i can see a crack in the primary cover, and thats easiy replaced.

the two crankcase halves, not so cheap
