Hi Carl and thanks. I contacted Paul and I will ship out the carbs to him in a week or so for rebuild. Once I put the carbs back on I will try out the bike again. Carl and others on this forum are just great! I am thankful to be here. The tank needs to be re-done on the inside and I agree with Paul that the tank is a cause of some problems and needs to be cleaned before looking into the engine. The bike starts and idles ok but has been sitting for a long time so I have not run it for more than a few minutes due to some corrosion in the tank. The oil is at level and clean. I will reach out to Don tomorrow. Thanks Carl for your help! David

You are very welcome and we are glad you are here. Just so you know, Paul did the complete rebuild/restoration of my '68 TR6R.

Be aware that once you have a clean tank & carbs, the first thing you need to do is install a fresh set of spark plugs, make sure your battery is fully charged, then do a proper "plug check" to see how the engine is firing. My guess is that you might not be spot-on, unless someone compensated for those aftermarket mufflers with a carb re-jetting. I'll check the main jets against the specs in the book, that will give a clue.

I do not know any engine rebuilders up your way. The Seeker may know of one. If you have to end up shipping it, I recommend GrandPaul right here on the forum.

Just catching up on this thread.......

I know of people in Toronto, CA. and in the Pittsburgh area, but no place within a reasonable driving distance from RI....sorry.

I also would recommend GP if you're shipping.

Hi Carl, I called Don Hutchinson Cycle and spoke to Rick. Rick is currently managing Don's Cycle. Rick informed me that Don has been sick for a while, a month or a bit longer. Don is expected back in about three weeks, I did not ask specifics of Don’s illness. Don’s painter has also been out due to illness, about a month or so, and just returned. They have a three to four month backlog on painting. I did indicate to Rick that was not a problem and I would stop up in two weeks. Thank you for the contact info.

Hi Paul, I expect to start taking the bike apart within the next week or so and send the carbs to you. I will be mounting the correct exhaust (I believe the correct set has the cross as the current does not) and also the mounting the correct muffler set. I am sure we will talk once you get them.

Hi Seeker and thanks for the suggestions, I will keep PA in mind it is not too far.

Thanks again for all your help. David

David....the two places I'd use in PA are both in Western PA.

Both have websites....Steve Collins at Collins Cycle in Sutersville and Rask Cycle in Evans City. Both do excellent work.

I concur with Carl and Seeker re: Collins and Rask, bone fide reputations.

I just can't read Seeker's nametag without thinking of the Who, that is a great music video. RIP Keith Moon, unparalleled.
