Funnily enough I used to have that tank on a t100ss (ish) bike and my wife says it was more orange than that pic. However, I think that I will do one of the tanks in vermilion and white but may go for a slightly darker vermillion than the picture here. It will look nice and I can touch my forelock to originality.
After all, I will be using a lot of s/s and socket heads as well.
The front mudguard On one of the bikes is not s/s. I think that some models had a painted front mudguard. I thought vermillion for the mudguards with a white stripe down the middle might be what they did or would it be solid vermillion?

My '69 Tiger has painted mudguards.....candy apple red with reflective silver stripes down the middle with white pin stripe on the border of the silver stripe.

I realize this is an old thread, but I am new to the forum and have recently purchased a 1973 T100R and I believe that the orange-red color in one of the previous is the original color of my bike. It was painted a metallic purple on fuel tank, oil tank and left cover. All the info I have read indicates that originally the tank should have been Hi-fire Vermillion/Arctic white and oil tank and left cover black. I have just finished stripping all the paint off everything and the tank appears to have been originally vermillion, but the oil tank and left cover were also vermillion and there is no indication that there is any black paint below the vermillion. It looks like the base paint, or someone did a really good job and stripped black off and then repainted them vermillion. So my question is, is it possible that a bike came from the factory with vermillion paint on the fuel tank, oil tank and left cover? Still have not decided what final color will be. Thanks for any comments.

I can't say for certain, but I doubt very much that the bike came from the factory that way. I think a former owner did a custom paint job on it.
All the reference material I have states that the oil tank and side cover are black and no other options are listed.

As for colours, chose whatever pleases you unless you want the original paint scheme.

The colours were listed as cherry red and cold white with gold lining for 1972.

That's what I also have in a Triumph book.

Thanks for info. That is same info I have as well. Was not exactly sure on year, but serial number is DH30934, so it was built in April of 1973. But it was actually registered in Canada as a 1972. I like the vermillion color, so that is prbably what I will paint tank.

That is a 1973 color scheme. Hi Fi Vermillion is Orange. It is a candy color which means it was translucent and sprayed over a base coat of gold, white, or silver. I think the Hi Fi Vermillion was sprayed over gold which will give a more orangish look than if it was sprayed over silver.
