Hi again everyone I have re-joined the fold having sold my Commando and acquired this 1970 TR6R which I have now got running and was very pleased with it until I tried to use the side. prop, kick or whatever kind of stand you may call it and found that it is to weak to support the bike due to several cracks around the mounting lug, I am located in the Medway area of Kent can any suggest or recommend someone who could cure this problem for me, it obviously needs welding or brazing which I believe is the original type of joint but it is beyond my capabilities

I just want to say that you have a reeeely nice looking Bonnie and that some pro welder can, and will, fix it for you. And that you MUST get it fixed right away 'cause, as you already know, that cracked tube is somewhat important to the frame's integrity.

This is a fairly common problem, so much that repair lugs are available from a number of places. Try googling "triumph tr6 sidestand lug", if yours is bad enough then it might be worth grinding it off (after taking note of the orientation) and using one of these.

Regardless, if it is cracked or a new one is being fitted I personally would try and find a mobile TiG welder. Mobile welders often work on cars, trucks, agricultural equipment and architectural metalwork so there should be a few about. Local garages may be able to recommend welders they use. I prefer TiG because this is a highly skilled process so the welder is more likely to do a good job and a badly welded frame or stand at speed is not a good idea. Amongst other things I have had a cracked fairing bracket welded by TiG on a GPZ900 headstock with no heat damage to the bearings and minimal need to dismantle the bike because the welder was skilled enough to control the heat spread.
