I wonder if somebody might have a color photo of the original gas tank paint color of a US 1976 Bonneville T140V. And if they might have the USA paint code to duplicate the original paint color. I'm quite sure the paint on this gas tank is not original. Thank you.

Don't know if this will help but. . .

NEW COLORS
The Meriden Co-op struggling as they were just to get the assembly line rolling again, very few changes were made unless absolutely necessary to meet pending regs. Hence the color combos remained as they were in 1974 & 1975, for part of the year & Photochromatic Red & Cold White for US & UK markets and also Photochromatic Blue & Cold White as a UK option. But gone was the 650cc T120, after 25 years of service, only the 750cc T140 remained.

Today I got back to the 1976 T140. Put a new battery in, a shot of starting fluid, and it started! But kept dying.
Found junk in the tank. Removed tank, flushed it out and ordered new shut off valves.
Tomorrow will be interesting.

So after some time with medical issues I'm back to getting the 76 Bonnie back on the road!
Today I'll change the tank shut off valves, new clutch cable, new exhaust pipes, new seat.

I still need to find a chain guard.

Here is a photograph of a different tank with the same color scheme on the Triumph you showed at the beginning of this discussion. They are very similar, don't you suppose? Perhaps yours is closer to original than you think. But then is THIS tank the right one? From my slight research, though, the color for 1976 would be that Magenta-Red and White scheme as demonstrated above by gtm76triumph. I have not seen this red and gold on other 76s, but it is a FINE looking color scheme.

Good evening, Attached is what I did to my 1976/77 Triumph T140V a number of years ago. In looking at it now, I think the gold pin stripping maybe too narrow. Also is the T140V Silver Jubilee that I restored.

Two BEE-U-TEE-FULL Bonnevilles! I think you did a splendid job on them. Top shelf! About that pin-striping; all the tanks I have ever seen had no more than 1/8 inch width for a single stripe. Yours looks nearly perfect! See the thin stripe in the photo. Not too wide.

"The beginning of this discussion" is over ten years ago, the o.p. has probably sorted his?

The red with the gold flash in the o.p. and in your photo is Vermilion, the scheme was originally 73.

"The original gas tank paint color of a US 1976 Bonneville" requested by the o.p. was "Cherokee Red" with the white flash, not sure if the colour is in @DaveM's photo but is definitely in the ones posted by @gtm.76triumph and @B25bsaboy. Cherokee Red was originally a candy, dark red lacquer over a gold "under coat".

Ten years ago? Well, yeah, I see the date, but then I am wondering why such ten-year-old posts are coming up in my emails like they are a current post? It's okay with me to talk about any issues no matter the age; always prevalent. I guess I could just ignore any not-so-new posts from now on and just go back to polishing on my bike.

yes, I posted it last week. My tank is original, has never been painted!
Last week I put a new battery in and flushed out the tank. It started the day before, but now seems to have an electrical issue, no fire!
Back to troubleshooting.
