rode for about 10 hours from ATL to Cherohala Skyway in North Georgia. Bike did great, but I have a second degree burn above the knee on my left leg..Any one else have engine heat issues?

I suppose the heat would also be relevant to the temperature outside at the time as well. From what I have read about this bike most owners find the heating acceptable for the bike, some have mentioned that it does get hot but not excessively so.

I suspect hotter engines have a lot to do with emission standards . Tiger 800 ‘ s run very hot also, not a big issue here but the southern states and Australian riders mention it. Of course the tigers pipes run in front of and under the engine so no pipe to get burned on , just a lot of heat coming from the engine itself which can be nice on a cool day. The catalytic converter has a huge influence as well, not only because it becomes a major heat sink right between your feet ( they weigh about 5 lbs) but it restricts the flow of hot gases trying to get out the end the muffler. Bonneville owners who decat report the bike takes considerably longer to warm up which would lead me to beleive that even though they will get to their proper coolant temperature the engine will still be cooler to the touch , will find out soon. Heading to the Cherohala in a few weeks so likely need all the heat the tiger can muster... Brooke. PS. Please welcome Handsome Gus the bulldog as my new avitar.

Same prob. In my case, 1-hr into a ride and my leg is on fire resulting in nasty heat rash and blisters on the inside knee and upper leg. Left side is hotter than right side. What’s the solution?

I actually traded in my ST for T120...no leg burns. ;-/. Too bad as I loved the bike...but it went to a good home. I really love my T120

I even took my bike to have the aux fan tested..my other option was to put some sort of barrier inside my pant leg

Glad I'm not the only one with heat problems. Mine is a US 2017 Street Twin that gets ridden a lot. 10K miles in 9 months. In 100 degree fahrenheit temps it's almost unridable. .... I just installed an Xpipe Decat hoping to cool it down. My new Booster plug came today. We'll see how it all works out on the next hot day. Stay tuned.

Will do. I installed the booster plug ($159.95) from www.boosterplug.com. It's very easy once you understand how the electrical connectors engage/disengage. You remove the seat and the LH plastic side cover then plug and play. These booster plugs are not all created equal. Do some homework. I can't test thoroughly for a few days until I get the staples removed from my head! (Long story involving rope pulling a dead DR650 with no helmet) Too much info, I know....

My big question is: Does the Xpipe Decat/ booster plug combo really help the US spec. bikes or is it actually for the Euro bikes that have a jerky low speed fueling problem and have I waisted a bunch of money?

In reference to street twin burning my right leg.… I removed the cat.It may have helped some but not a lot. I added a booster plug with the same result. Then I removed the snorkel from the airbox with the same result. Someone suggested I remove the thick rubber that connects the snorkel to the air box. Viola! I have finally noticed a performance Improvement by letting more air in. I’m waiting for a 100° day to see if it still burns me.... stay tuned.

The thick plottens! When I finally removed the seat on the R model to look at intake stuff (pondering more horses of course ) I noticed the intakes proximity to a very hot area on the bicycle packed with electrical components. Says I to me , aha the old cooling things with intake air trick, Air cooled wiring so to speak and at the same reducing intake noise which they don’t want ,although they promote it on the small triples. Back to 1976 when sound standards were imposed on snowmobiles. Long story short discovered how engines cool. Fins with fans moving air by, fins with out fans, glycol filled rads losing heat to air or snow thrown by the track , And Cooler Air going through the intake to cool the intake valve , spark plug , cylinder walls etc. 100 Fahrenheit air into a 1000 Fahrenheit environment . Can’t recall what the numbers were (dynajohn would know) but intake air cooling was a way higher % than we expected so you are on a good track . Brooke

Might as well face it folks ,the hotter weather is the future. Climate change is well under way as predicted . Palm trees now growing in Charlottetown, latitude 46 N, the internet does not fib, photo on Water St. today. Brooke
