Tec adjustable Foot pegs help

Hi all, I've just chopped in my Tiger 800 Xrx for a new Speed Twin, which was delivered today. I've been fettling for a few hours as it's raining for the first time in weeks here! I'm stumped with the Tec adjustable foot pegs. I can't get that spring back in place and I've been trying for over an hour so far. Is there a knack to it, or am I just useless? I have bad arthritis in one hand but it doesn't seem to be a brute force problem? Any advice will be gratefully received.

Hope this photo helps. You can see the two contact points of the spring. Needle nose pliers will help put the second contact point in place.

The picture shows how the spring needs to be installed. I held the spring in place with my index finger under footrest. Then insert retaining pin. You need to push the pin in while moving foot rest into position. You might find it helpful to use a drill with a shank slightly smaller than the retaining pin to keep the spring from falling out while pushing retaining pin into position. I did it, took some fiddling.
