Hi everyone, I'm no mechanic or engineer I just love riding so i'm pretty clueless in the mechanical side. I bought just this week from the dealership a second hand 2009 Bonneville. The bike sounded and ran fine on the test ride, on the way home and even on the night ride i had on that same day. This morning when I started the bike there came a loud rattling sound coming from the engine.

I was wondering if anyone can inform me what it is and what could have happened that would have caused the bike to start this rattling. The bike has only done 400km. The bike still rides like normal it's just this really loud annoying noise .
The link below is a small recording I did to demonstrate to the community

Thanks in advanced

That's pretty loud alright!!!! Those engines are pretty much bullet proof and should not sound like that.
The bike must be under some sort of warranty so take it back to the dealer.

Thanks for all your input guys. I got the dealership to pick it up from my place, showed them the video and they said it sounded like a Stuck valve. been two days and its still with them, got an update with them and they won't have the part until next week, so no riding for me until then. Sucks because I just bought the bike the week before.. luckily i bought the extra 3 years warranty on it since it didn't originally come with warranty because it was used bike. Only 400km on it, can anyone tell me how a stuck valve happens? i literally just had one evening ride on that bike and when starting the bike up the next day thats when the sound happened.

Fantastic that it's covered under the warranty that you bought! It's always a question to me whether to spring for a warranty or not.

Please let us know what the final resolution is from the dealer.

Will definitely keep you posted, it's still at the dealership at the moment as they are waiting for the part needed. I was hoping that i wouldn't even need to use the warranty considering this happened literally the next morning after purchase, but we'll see. I usually wouldn't get the extended warranty when purchasing a brand new bike, but since this was pre owned i thought it be a good idea

Well, something told you to buy the warranty, and now you know it was the right thing to do, this time. May you never need it again.

G'day everyone! just an update and the bike is running fine now, no charge and they had to repaced the intake cam and the valve bucket.
Just another question for everyone though, is it normal for a triumph to not start straight away? for example i would have to hold down the ignition before it would get going. same for my wifes street triple, she would have to flip the switch off, then on then try again. I only ask and it's our first triumphs, we've been on the ninja 250 for 8 years and those ninjas tend to just power up with switched it, when its cold of course it would lag, then we would just turn up the choke.

sorry again of my poor terminologies, im not mechanically intelligent. I just love riding.

thanks again

Ok, new update, the bike is no not starting, instead I would just get a click. I did of researching and apparantly this is common with the bonnies efi and that the low voltage threshold has been set so if it drops just by half then it won't start. So anyone that rides doing short stops tend to get stranded. anyone experience this?
