What is happening that it is so dead on the forum lately  Did I miss something :y114:

Yeah - you've been hanging out on Facebook. ;-)

I've been doing somewhat the same as Carl - closing up summer cottages.
It's now past summer cottage season so the time has come to disconnect the water systems, haul in floating docks, store boats and put the shutters on. I just finished doing all of that yesterday.
We usually let it go until later in October (depending of the weather), but this year my daughter and he husband are flying to Italy on Friday for two weeks and my wife and I agreed to house-sit her dog and cats. It's easier for us to move in than to displace them to unfamiliar surroundings. They live outside of town, but I'll be back and forth every few days to collect mail, check things over, etc.
They have a computer so I'll still be able to stay in touch.
It's also that time of year when riding is starting to wind down so I'm going to store my two vintage bikes in my basement for the winter. I'll keep the H***a and the T100 out for now, but by the end of October they will be stored too.
After the young folks get home my wife and I are going to take another run by car to New England for some Christmas shopping.

This locking up for the winter season is sort of a strange concept to me, could never imagine living like this and having to store the bikes as well :oh: Then I suppose it is what you are used to and our African climate would do about the same to you as what yours would do to me :y114:

I live in my "summer cottage" 12 mths a year.
Now a winter hut, how cool would that be!

otherwise, we must be neighbors, my house IS my summer cottage.

Put away bikes for the winter? What for? it's only 4 days, and it's only 45 degrees...

I'd rather just put on a warm jacket and gloves, and go ride!

We are still in the mountains enjoying some very beautiful fall weather and some great riding. The leaves are just beginning to turn and the color is spectacular.

Like Paul, I do not even know what storing bikes for the winter means.

He's BAAAAaaaaaack ! :ya2: :ya2: :ya2:

Carl, i mentioned in the past my distaste for cold weather riding, but i recently found out why i was so different than others...i was using a fleece lined levi jacket. Once i got a leather jacket about 6 months ago i realized there is no comparison in how well it works. funny, but in the course of owning a dozen or so bikes since i was a kid i never tried leather till now ! I also realized your face/neck, legs and hands can get pretty darn cold and it's not really that bad as long as your TORSO is warm, and nothing does that like leather. So i've been riding to work in weather 10 degrees colder than the coldest i did before. And I'm actually starting to enjoy riding is fairly cold weather. The kicked is i even find leather keeps you from getting as hot in hot weather because it keeps the heated wind from penetrating you the same way it does with cold. Wish i'd done this years earlier. Leather good, levi bad.

Leather is definitely the most effective against keeping the cold out. However, the new fabric motorcycle gear is just as effective; It just wears out much faster than leather - especially if you go down. Here in the Southeast, leather is unbearable in the heat and humidity, even the vented leather jackets. Vented fabric jackets are OK as long as you are moving.
