I have noticed on Sky News that the presenters have been wearing poppies for the last few weeks, does anyone know why or is this maybe a month long thing for remembrance day that is coming up

That's pretty interesting.
When I was in elementary school, we used to have a "poppy day" sometime in November. Must have had something to do with the end of WWI.
Also, while living in Germany, they celebrate Fasching which starts on November 11th at the 11th second of the 11th minute of the 11th hour.

You may be right Sir but I am not old enough to have heard anything other than World War One.
I am certain it was more catastrophic in human lives lost and property mangled as each war since has paled in comparison to the preceding war but I am old enough to draw Social Security and I was still born after World War Two.

Yes I know but that is on the 11th and they have been wearing them for about a week now and I cannot recall them wearing them for so long before the actual time. I thought maybe something else had changed

Hmmm then I suppose this must be it then. I just don't remember them doing it so far in advance last year. I don't suppose we will even see the SA lot even doing this on the day
We usually start wearing our poppies on 1 November and take them off on 12 November.

No offence, but I'm a little stunned that you don't know what a poppy is and what it means to veterans and their families. Lest we forget.

Poppies are the largest cash crop in Afghanistan. The money from the sale of opium there is what fuels the terrorists.

This is what we are up against and why a concerted effort is being made to have those farmers grow legitimate crops.
A few years ago there was a big stink about a woman who failed a drug test when applying for a job. By failing the drug test, the State took away custody of her children.
There was a big court battle over her losing custody of her kids.
Believe it or not, her excuse was that she ate a poppy seed bagel that morning. The jury actually BOUGHT that ridiculous excuse and she got custody of her children back.
But......I watched an episode of Myth Busters where they tested that myth.
They ate poppy seed bagels and took drug tests afterwards. It was true that it's possible, but you would have to eat a LOT of those bagels before it would cause you to fail a drug test.

OMG, that is just so crazy!!!!!
I'm not much of a cook, but I've become a pretty good baker since I retired and had time to learn.
One of my best and tasty products are whole wheat poppy seed muffins.
No drug problems so far
