I had an early meeting this morning at a coffee shop on a very busy intersection. We could see the intersection clearly from where we were sitting. A fairly new car had broken down in the intersection, had the little red triangle on the road behind it and had hazard lights on. The owner was not in the car. Next thing, there's huge crunching noise and a woman had just ploughed into the back of the stationary car. She sat there for a moment and when the lights turned green, reversed, went around the car and drove off!!! We got the license number and put on a note on the car leaving the details for a driver. How can you just do this?? Peak hour traffic - did she think no-one would notice? Just when I think I've seen it all....................

That happens all the time here. Over the first thing I would suspect is she was on a cell phone; the second that she had no insurance and/or drivers license; and the third that she was an illegal.

:y114: She probably was on the phone, possibly no insurance but by the looks of her, she didn't look like an illegal to me. Mid-50's and definitely of the paler pursuation. Not the typical local illegal! :silent:

Nothing this is why it was easy for her to drive away. I have already been hit from behind by one of our taxi. He reversed and off he went. I had his licence plate number and I am still waiting for some sort of action I think that was around 5 years back. then there was the time when one of these huge delivery trucks ran me off the road intentionally laughing while doing it also had his licence plate still waiting on that one as well. And not forgetting when the bus driver road me over a few years back had his number and reported it too the bus company. Still waiting for the cops to phone me about that one. Remember I was also injured in this incident, I still see the driver riding the same bus today

So that is what will happen here as well NOTHING

If they find her via the tag number, what will the law do? Here the law takes hit and run driving pretty seriously.

Yes, she can be traced. The owner of the car she hit can open a civil case and his insurance company can pursue the hit and run. There were so many witnesses willing to come forward and gave names and numbers so I think she's got a heap of trouble.

But Dave's issue of being hit by a mini-bus taxi?? No hope. Most of the drivers don't own the taxi and the taxi owners generally have fraudulent licences or "tags". Sorry for Dave. Lousy luck.

I notice that it was a SHE and might have been on the phone! Hmmmm I always thought women could not multitask :y114:

Yes, it was SHE who was on the phone but it was a HE that abandonned HIS car in the middle of a busy intersection at morning peak hour. NOT a smart move.

She was multi-tasking. She was talking on her phone, rear-ending another car, reversing and negotiating her way around the abandonned smashed car whilst figuring out a quick getaway hoping not to be noticed! :ya2:

I do hope she is caught and it costs her big time. If your insurance companies are like the ones here, they will move heaven and earth to go after someone like this as an example.
