The Hilts PX70 motorcycle from the Star Trek universe…
Star Trek Beyond, which came out in 2016, is the thirteen film in the Star Trek franchise and the third installment in the series reboot. It stars Chris Pine as Captain James T. Kirk and was co-written by Simon Pegg, who plays chief engineer “Scotty.”
In the film, the Enterprise is destroyed by an alien starship swarm commanded by the film’s principal villain, Krall, who is searching for an ancient bioweapon known as the Abronath. The survivors of the Enterprise crash on a nearby planet, Altamid, where they link up with Jaylah, a scavenger who lives in the grounded USS Franklin, an early Starfleet vessel that went missing over a century earlier.
When Jaylah gives Kirk a tour of the USS Franklin, Kirk is particularly fascinated by a motorcycle he sees on the bridge. Says Kirk:
“Hey, that’s a PX70. My dad used to have one when he was kid. My mom said he used to put her on the back of it, drive her nuts.”

Later, Kirk shows off some serious motocross skills on the PX70, when he rides the motorcycle straight into Krall’s camp as a diversion. He uses Jaylah’s holographic replication device to create multiple versions of himself on the motorcycle, which distracts the enemy and allows Jaylah, Spock, and McCoy to sneak in unnoticed. Ever since the film hits theaters, moviegoers have wondered about the motorcycle.
Hilts PX70 Motorcycle
In the special features for the film, it’s revealed that the manufacturer of the PX70 motorcycle is Hilts — named after Steve McQueen’s character in The Great Escape. At least two of the motorcycles were built for the film, painted green with Military Assault Command Operations (MACO) / USS Franklin insignias. The main man behind the motorcycles is the film’s art director, Tom Sanders, who’s worked on such films as Days of Thunder, Hook, Braveheart, Saving Private Ryan, and many more.
The PX70 bikes in the film are obviously customized to hide their original make and manufacture — after all, it would not do to have an early 21st century dirt bike riding aboard the USS Franklin, a 22nd-century Freedom-class starship and the first earth ship to reach Warp 4. Speculations have abounded as to the donor bikes for the Hilts PX70. Theories have ranged from BMW F700 to BMW GS450 to BMW G450X to KTM SX-F to Honda CRF with the headlight from a K50/K51 BMW R1200GS.
