The weather today was almost perfect. The morning started off around 42 degF and reached somewhere around 80 with a light breeze for most of the day with a few gusts and not a cloud in the sky for most of the day. Perfect riding weather and there was a ton of bikes out on the roads.

In Donie, Texas they were holding a benefit Trials Event to raise money for the Wounded Warriors and most of our regular ride group was headed there. The event was going to have a ton of vintage trials bikes and had raised a lot of interest among folks all over the state and across state lines also. I was looking forward to the ride and the event but I was unable to make it. Hopefully there will be a bunch of photos that I'll share here later.

So what was I doing? I was on the roof of the house cleaning off pine straw. Maybe I can go riding tomorrow, I do have a ride coming up Monday also.

After cleaning off the roof my youngest son and I headed out to the rifle range to kill some paper.

Here's Kyle with the Mini-14

Here's his target, I should have taken a photo of the target after the first session but didn't think about until I covered up the holes with the this marker.

Most of those hits have a second round at the same spot. The lower left and right bullseye weren't misses from the upper one, he was calling his shots on those.

And Kyle with the Model 94.

We had shot this silhouette target earlier where he was trying for head shots, all with open sights, rear peep sight. If you look at the center torso you can see the shots from today after we turned the target around and taped a bullseye target on it. he was shooting a little low on the head shots until he check his placement thru the binocular and adjusted his sight picture. I didn't get a photo of the head to show his adjustments, let's just say if Zombies were invading the range, they would have never reached the firing line.

I love love to have the Mini-14 or Mini-30 Ranch to go with my 14. I guess what I really need to do is invest in a left-handed rifle or two to see if it improved Kyle's shot placements. He does good with my current line up but I would like to see how he performed with one set up for him. We are going to start working on moving him into some junior marksmanship competitions.

Next time out he wants to see what he can do with my A3/03.

Nice shooting!!! I started my youngest son John shooting in high power rifle competition at 13 years old. He is now 42 and still a gun nut like his Dad. He often beat the old man in competition. We also competed in long range competition at 1000 yards. Great fun.
