Snow turning to rain is exactly what happened
It snowed quite heavily overnight, but this morning here on the coast, it's raining steadily. Inland and more to the north it's still snowing and power is out in many places due to the weight of the heavy snow. It's barely at the freezing mark so the snow is wet and heavy. That's hard on trees and power lines.
It's a good day to stay home and watch some DVD's I got for Christmas :ya2:

My sister in Norfolk, VA got 11 inches yesterday. That is a lot of snow for Norfolk. We got a little, not much rain - which we need - and the low was 27 F this morning. The high today will only be 50 F.

well, for all you northern hemisphere folks,I went for an early ride on christmas morning (before the family arrived) and here is a picture of our weather. Apart from a stiff breeze, all is good.

Devo, does it ever snow in Kiwi land? Just curious.

in the mountains for sure and occasionaly in the lower south island.
Have had snow on the ground up here twice in my life that I can remember, but it was gone within a few hours.
The only thing here that stops me riding is rain.

I, too, took a nice Christmas ride. On Christmas day, our high was 70 F. It was the day after Christmas that the bottom fell out of the temps. We had a low of 29 F both this morning and yeaterday. By Thursday, we will be back in the 70's again. YEA!!

Hey Rocky.....

The Penguins are bringing Sidney Crosby's former Cole Harbor hockey team down to Pittsburgh as well as the former Russian team that Evgeni Malkin played for as a youth. They'll play an exhibition game against each other as part of the Winter Classic.

They are also going to have an "Alumni Game" between former Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals which should be fun to watch. I think the Penguins alumni have a bit of a stacked team compared to the Capitals with names like Mario Lemieux, Paul Coffey, Ron Francis, Brain Trottier, Jay Caufield, Taglianetti, Rick Tocchet, Jaromir Jagr, Troy Loney, and Barasso playing, it's like almost all Hall of Famers.

Our weather forecast for New Years Day is rain and approximately 50 degrees!!

The warm weather isn't so bad....the outdoor ice surface can handle that. But the rain won't allow the puck to move for the Winter Classic.

They may have to postpone the game until 8:00 PM Saturday night. And if that doesn't work, they are talking about moving it until Sunday. If it's still raining Sunday, they are saying they'll have to postpone it completely and have the game played at a later date indoors at the CONSOL Energy Center. If that happens, a LOT of people are going to be upset who are flying into Pittsburgh for the game, plus every hotel room is booked solid. What a mess!!

Yes, that's the forecast for our weekend too.
The storm that hammered the northeast US moved more north and here on the NS coast we only got dusted along with some freezing rain. The temps stayed well below freezing, but only in the -4C(25F) range.
I just dropped my daughter and her husband at the airport and the roads are clear and dry.
I'll be alternating between her house and mine over the next couple of weeks as she has pets that need feeding amd attention.

Normally we are ok as we live on top of the hill so to speak. However it seems a flash flood is going to be the only way to sort out our water shortage we now have. Just hope it raining by the dams. For the last two weeks it has been raining off and on here in town but not much over our dams
