I attended our local ABATE meeting last night and our legislative committee spokesman reported on a meeting he attended where the guest speaker was a guy named Jeff Hennie. Hennie is the National Riders Foundation paid lobbyist in Washington DC and always has his finger on the pulse of Congress in the realm of motorcycle legislation or things that would affect bikers.

Some key points he reported which should concern all bikers in the USA.......

- Did you know the NTSB is pushing hard for a federal mandatory helmet law? They are and your representatives should be contacted to express your feelings on this.

- Did you know that there is a loophole in Obamacare that now opens the door for your health insurance company to not pay for certain injuries? And one of the types of injuries that is being singled-out is an injury that occurred while riding a motorcycle. Everyone should find out if their company is doing this before you have to find out the hard way.

- The EPA and DOT are pushing for legislation to ban ALL types of customization of motorcycles from their stock condition. All ready-custom bikes (like choppers built by a chopper shop) would be outlawed.

- This one is really important.....the Obama administration is pushing for the adoption of new gasoline standards which would require an ethanol blend called E-15. E-15 runs much hotter than the current ethanol blends and will damage small displacement air cooled engines such as motorcycle engines, lawnmowers, weed whackers, etc.

I am aware of these. The US is simply following the EU regarding the modifications and the helmet laws. The E-15 is the corn lobby at work and the loophole in Obamacare is likely the result of insurance company donations to the Dem's.
