Hi Guys,
on Monday as i was parking my 2012 explorer in the garage the side stand bolt failed with out any warning that it was about to do so (bike was fitted with the updated side stand bolt) and the side stand collapsed as l was getting of the bike on the left hand side (l do not stand on the foot pegs when i get on and off my explorer) and l ended up with the bike on top of me and pinning me against my work bench and injuring my arm and shoulders
Has anyone else had the updated side stand bolt fail? l have been in touch with the Triumph factory in Hinckley and they say that mine is the first they have heard off that has failed with the updated bolt fitted
I see the GEN2 side stand pivot has been changed from a nut and bolt to a solid "pin" with a circlip to keep it in place, the side stand mounting bracket, side stand switch, and spring are all the same part numbers..... wonder why Triumph redesigned the pivot point on the GEN2 side stand.......do Triumph know something they are not telling us ??
l have brought a GEN2 side stand, pivot pin and circlip as l would never trust the bolt that's used as the pivot point on GEN1 side stands again. My injuries could have been a lot worse, broken leg, hit my head and fracture my skull leading to brain damage or even death
