Honda used the same math in their 3 valve engines back in the eighty’s. The 400 twin and car engines all had it , probably for a decade or so . It was suggested to me that the intakes had different cam profiles but I never checked that out .

A newbie complained about this link to a Yamaha story.
Yeah, I'll be a "newbie" for at least ten more years. And what complaining? Since when is making a statement of fact a complaint? And since this is a Triumph forum, I must say, that seeing articles about Harleys and Hondas and Yamahas and Suzukis and BMWs and Kawabongas and, and, and, well. you got to wonder . . .
Maybe it should rename itself to Motorcycle Talk. Mind you, I do find interest in things directly RELATED to Triumph motorcycles, like: helmets and tires and riding gear and stuff like that. And, I guess if there is no subject matter about Triumphs going on, one could always go over to the other bike brands forums . . .

We have general motorcycle as well as general motorcycle sections like where this video is posted. I enjoy seeing the content. I have no interest in visiting other motorcycle forums. I enjoy this one. We also have threads on cooking and other interests, that doesn’t make this a culinary forum. It just allows some of us to share our interests and lives with other members we enjoy conversing with. If you don’t care for a thread there’s no need to comment or read it either. I have a variety of interests, some I share here others are not appropriate here so I don’t. I have an interest in bicycles and cycling as well and that would also be something one could share in other interests section. This place is a Triumph forum, but it’s also a community that shares. I was very glad for support I’ve received from members here when I’ve had difficulty with medical issues. Enjoy the ride y’all! Share what you like!

@Lordmac, the best way to increase seeing the type of posts you like to see is posting some yourself. If you’re not enjoying the general and other motorcycle sections just ignore them is my best advice. Would love to see some more Triumph related posts from you, perhaps rides or mods.

Triumph is doing good. I hear Harley is in deep trouble.
Yeah poor Harley . Lots of my friends have them and many have sold them and will probably never ride again. Not like us guys who had many brands . I can see myself ending it all with a Honda Cub 150 in the garage , they are gorgeous . Harley dropped the local dealer here a couple of years ago , I was surprised, he seemed okay with it . Maybe it wasn’t as great a franchise as I thought . My friends all say the same thing , too heavy to move around the garage which makes it difficult to wash and polish them . And they are tired of that too. Not to mention , an oil change is $300 , jeez .
My best high school friend won’t be selling his though , 100th anniversary fat boy, robin egg green , I call it , and cream , disc wheels with white walls . She’s a beauty, bet it still has the original rubber on it .

Okay!

If you got a classic Triumph, you know - an old one - that uses Amal concentric Mark Ones, (you know, carburettors), for example, and you just bought new Amal Premiers, how can you get the cables to fit, cuz they won't if you got stock cables?

Current production Amal & Wassel carbs almost always arrive with adjustable ferrules screwed into the carb tops. Who needs adjustable ferrels when the stock-original cables have adjusters built in? While Norton and BSA utilized the throttle ferrules, Triumph fitted throttle cables with top-hat shaped ferrules designed to seat into the top of the carburetor. So, how do you install them with stock cables?

You have two options: re-use your existing carb tops, even though they look weird cuz the metal doesn't match yer shiny new carbs (assuming you aren’t installing different carb types – or, If you are replacing monoblocs with concentrics obviously this won’t work) or you can carefully remove the threads from the new carb tops. Remove the threads!? Uh, sure, why not? I mean the carb tops can't cost more than fifty bux apiece, can they?

All you need is a drill and an appropriately sized drill bit, usually ¼,” but you’ll want to measure your throttle cable ferrules prior to drilling. Yikes! Drilling HOLES into the fifty-dollar carb tops without the use of a mill or lathe! Holy Toledo, Batman! I am frightened byit! But that is what you got to do to use yer shiny new tops with yer old cables. Or, you can buy new cables and try to make all the fittings work, which may not, or it might, I dunno.

But anyway, if you manage to successfully drill-out the threads on yer new fifty dollar carb tops, the cable ends will seat into the carb top just like yer old ones, the throttle slide drops completely into the carburetor body and you are ready to fit and tune your carbs.
Simple.

Ah, now isn't that better?

You could try putting your post in the right section, the classic sub forum. You won’t likely get any response by posting it in a thread that has no relevance to the topic or question. So no it’s not better.

Nice bit of info @Lordmac . This would be better served in the TRIUMPH Classics section. Would you like me to move it there?

Now it's a Yamaha forum.
No this is a Triumph forum but this forum area is called Off Topic - Videos - Motorcycle so if someone finds a video that they feel might be of interest to others they can post it here. Just because we own Triumph motorcycles does not mean that we cannot show interest in another brand, a motorcycle is a motorcycle no matter who builds it.
