It is now a Cat 4. Trey and his family are in the direct path of the eye The NHC says the Leesville area should expect sustained 110 mph winds. They should be able weather that with minimal damage. They are on some of the highest land in the Leesville area; flooding will not be a problem. They do have a generator.

You guys in the maritime provinces may get some of this. Keep and eye on the weather.

Don't worry, we're watching all those southern storms like a hawk.
At this point in time, the forecast is for rain on the weekend, but we know how that can change in the bat of an eye.
I am glad to know that. Stay alert. This one is a real, uhmm, female canine. it is now up to 145 mph sustained and expected to be at 150 mph by the time she makes landfall.

She is going to cause widespread destruction in Louisiana and Texas. She is expected to still be Cat 1 when she gets to Arkansas.

Trey tells me the gas stations in Leesville, LA are out of fuel. They certainly will not get resupplied in the next couple of days. Ft Polk, where Trey works, has fuel and as a "key and essential employee" he will be able to get gasoline.

My thoughts are with everyone in Laura’s path.

I am happy to report that Trey, my son, and his family made it through Laura safely with minimal damage. They were right in the cross hairs and it was Cat 2 when she hit.
The following are his words

"We had only a couple of hours of bad weather. The center of the eye went right over us. We are safe but no power. A tree is blocking our road."

"Lost a small tree that has been dying for the past several years, lost two pieces of aluminum trim on the front gable, and some minor shingle damage. Our roof is over 20 years old and needed to be redone. Now insurance will take care of it!"

"We are driving through town. We are very fortunate. There is lots of damage. It's going to be a long wait for power and now water."

Trey reports it will be two weeks before power is restored in the Leesville area. Ft Polk which is on a different grid from Leesville, is also withouty power. Leesville says the water pressure is slowly coming up; but Trey still has no water. He drove to Lufkin, Texas to get gasoline for his generator.

Trey reports they got water back around 8:15 PM last night. It is not potable; but certainly better than no water at all. He said they have gone from a 3rd world state to a 2nd world state!

Update from Trey.

"Swofford Base Camp day 4. No changes. No electricity.

Morale is moderate.

Temp 93 with a heat index of 104, humidity 52% I think it is actually 152%.

Generator is fully functional. Wish it was 4x the size.

Fridge and freezer is still stocked. Haven't resorted to neighbor's pets...yet.

We have embraced siestas...the Mexicans were on to something.

Insurance Adjuster comes next Monday.

We are escaping to Lufkin, Texas tomorrow to enjoy a civilized society."
