Two tropical storms headed to the Gulf of Mexico. It’s going to be interesting next week.
If they end up being hurricanes in the gulf at the same time, it would be a historic footnote. I’ll secure a few items and then wait.Even way up here in the Great White North, we're watching what's going on down there because many of those storms find there way here - albeit greatly diminished - at least most of the time
Very unusual to have two coming at you at the same time. Stay safe.
Flooding, wind damage and power outages are typically what happens in my area. Depending on the storm coming I’ll lift my MINI a bit higher just in case. I suspect that won’t be necessary. The last storm that was of significance flooded shops and cars a few blocks from me. The water went into shops that were 2 to 3 feet higher than the road. I’ve come to realize I live on what amounts to a high spot in my area. I’m going to do a few simple over due protections for a few items and then relax. I bought a storm lantern with lamp oil, so no need to worry about batteries. I have an emergency radio with a crank in case power goes out. Extra gas in a five gallon container and all vehicles filled including the motorcycle. I’m not the adventurous type when it comes to storms so I usually stay indoors unless I’m forced to go out. One storm caused our third floor terrace to flood due to a plugged drain. I got wet unplugging it in the middle of the storm. LoL. The water was higher than the door sill and that’s how I woke up to water dripping in.That's the sad thing about storms like that. You can't do anything about it except run so you sit, wait and take whatever it/they dish out.
Well, 25 years in this house and many storms. Eventually one will come along that will cause more damage than up to this point. We had dumb luck when we bought this house as far as elevation was concerned.Sounds to me like you're well prepared as well as having the advantage of being on higher ground. Good for you![]()
It’s not good. That puts my son in the paths of both.
That’s at least good. It’s pretty low near the coast in that area. Farther away the better. Storm surge is not an issue in Houston, but flooding is and it doesn’t even need to be a tropical storm. I stay put whenever it really rains for long periods. Wind damage is always a consideration. Hope yours stay safe.He is far enough inland and high enough that he doesn't worry about flooding - just wind damage and cleanup.
Thank you. I hope you stay safe, sound and dry! Keep your eye on the weather! My son lives west of Ft Polk and east of the Texas border. That’s at least good. Good solution. I am glad you prevented being flooded. We don't really have storms like you guys but mostly really heavy winds that cause damage around town. When it does rain very hard or flood I am also on a high point and my property has a slope so any water runs off into the houses behind me. When I first moved in I built a wall across the side of the house but we never put any vents in it for water to flow through. I almost had part of the house flooded but also caught it in time and I was out in the pouring rain digging under the wall to allow the water to flow. I have since cut a nice vent into the bottom and now the water flow past it without a problem.
