As many of you may recall, I have been an advocate for the handicapped for many years.

I realize we are spread out all over the world, but what I am asking for here can be done from anywhere. There is a newly forming non-profit organization that will help the Autistic in central Pennsylvania. They are asking for help to get them over the top in a contest sponsored by Pepsi which would award them $25,000 USD. All we as a group need to do is take a couple minutes from our day to vote for them.

If the members here agree, TriumphTalk could also be recognized as a group as one of their partners. Again, we only need to vote, but you'd be giving back and possibly TriumphTalk could get some nice PR exposure. Even if we decide not to be an official partner, we could still all help them out anonymously.

Here's the pitch:

I am writing to ask for help with a project I am working on. It is called ADERS (Autism Diagnostic Evaluations Resources & Services). We are a new nonprofit agency starting up in Central PA (serving Union, Northumberland, Montour, Columbia, & Lycoming Counties). As anyone affected by autism in this area knows that we need more and better services in this area: from early diagnosis to family issues, advocacy, and adult services. We hope to start providing these services beginning this fall starting with adult services and early diagnosis.

Here's where we need help: we have entered the Pepsi Refresh Everything Project in hopes of winning a $25,000 grant. In order to get the grant, we need people to vote for our agency every day either online, by text message, facebook, or ideally all 3! We competed in August and did very well... it looks like we are going to finish around 40th place out of over 300 other competitors. That is phenomenal for a small group to do.

In order to read our full proposal and vote, please go to this website: Address the needs of people affected by autism in Central PA. | Pepsi Refresh Everything

While competing in August we learned that past groups have won by forming "alliances" with other groups. We began to form alliances with other autism groups. You get 10 votes per day, only one can go to ADERS. That leaves 9 other votes for other groups. You can pick what groups you want to vote for- please leave a comment in their comment section saying that you're with ADERS. This encourages their members to return a vote for us.

Or, you can see our official partners at this website: vote

Thank you for reading this post and (hopefully) taking the time to vote. Voting will go from September 1 through the end of the month. Feel free to ask me any questions, or if you happen to enter a project in the Pepsi Refresh Project, maybe we can form another alliance? Thanks again, have a great day!

Glad you voted Dave. But it's too late for them to win in August so we are shooting for winning in September.

If TriumphTalk wants to be a partner, I can contact the lady and get the info on how.

Below is the email that I received in reply to our inquiry.

I'm not too sure how this is going to work since it seems like the "partners" are all groups of some type that are also competing for Pepsi give-aways and are all charities.

I didn't mention exactly what group we are for now and only said that it is an online community of Triumph motorcycle owners...just in case.

AJ,

Thank you for taking the initiative to contact the Triumph Motorcycle group on our behalf. That is wonderful that they are willing to support us! Please feel free to give them my e-mail address: [email protected] if they should want to contact me directly. Are they involved in the Pepsi Refresh Project as well? If not, here's a brief description:

The Pepsi Refresh Project is similar to the "American Idol" of grant writing. Basically, anyone can write a proposal, submit it to Pepsi, and then they are entered into a form of contest to get the grant amount they wrote for (there are categories for $5k, $25k, $50k, and $250k). If the project garners enough votes by the end of the month, they are awarded the money. People can vote by going to the webpage, voting by text message, or voting by facebook. Here's is our page where you can read our proposal and vote for us: www.refresheverything.com/aders Once we roll over and I confirm the phone number I will send you the info to text vote for us. Currently you can text vote by typing 73774 in the recipients line and 101217 in the message body and hitting send. It should stay the same, but just in case...

Here's a brief description of ADERS:
Autism Diagnostic Evaluations Resources & Services, Inc (ADERS) is a new nonprofit agency formed by four individuals with personal and professional experience with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs): a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and mother of a son with ASD, a Psychologist and mother of a son with ASD, a Master of Social Work who is the brother of a young man with ASD, and an Autism advocate with a Master’s of Education in curriculum and instruction. Our mission is to provide comprehensive diagnostics, evaluations, resources, and advocacy to drive treatment and intervention planning to enrich the quality of life for individuals and families affected by ASD. We are already enrolled as a provider for Pennsylvania's Adult Autism Waiver and we will be purchasing materials to do early diagnosis with the grant money. As we grow, we will add other services: advocacy, transitional services, employment services, occupational and speech therapy, and wraparound services.

I have also attached our flyer which we have been posting anywhere there is a public bulletin board, and our handouts which we use at promotional events. They can use these to help us if they would like.

We also have a presence on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/New-Columbia-PA/Autism-Diagnostic-Evaluations-Resources-Services/144936175546446#!/pages/New-Columbia-PA/Autism-Diagnostic-Evaluations-Resources-Services/144936175546446?v=wall (sorry for the long web address, when I have time I'll be shortening it in the future) They can also search Autism Diagnostic Evaluations Resources & Services to find our page.

We have also partnered with several other worthy groups, but I don't have the link for that until tomorrow. They will be able to access that link through the facebook page as well.

Again, thank you thank you thank you!
I appreciate that you're willing to help us out in September!

I think it would be best to just have anyone who's motivated to do so vote for them individually and anonymously since in order to be a partner, you would also need to be a group looking to win some Pepsi money. And those are for charities.

By the way....

I recommended the movie Temple Grandin here on the forum some time ago. It was the story of an autistic lady's life and success. Well, it won an Emmy the other night at the Emmy Awards.

If you've not seen this movie, check it out!
