Hi all,

I am here to learn more about my bike Triumph Bonneville Special 1979. The bike is a little heavy for my weight and height, so thinking of selling/trading for a more modern Triumph.

Thank you,

Robin

Robin, welcome to the forum from the Sunshine State. I am not really familiar with the late 70's Bonneville's; but my 1968 is lighter than my 2003 Bonneville T100. My guess is the new Bonneville SE would fit you best.

I have the same T140D and there is no bike made today that is any narrower or lighter. The seat is a bit higher then the 60s models but cutting down seats is a common practice, may lower your center of gravity. But like Carl S. says above the new ones are MUCH heavier, and wayy wide. Yo might want to look at the Royal enfields. Bet you could make an even trade for a brand new bike. Although they are now made in India. A few mods and the 1st Bullett 500 re-introduced id a classic!

As has already been said, there is no modern Triumph model that's lighter than what you have now. They are much, much heavier.
I think you really only have two choice; just get used to the bike and ride it, or think of a smaller bike from one of the Japanese or other manufacturers.
Do the rounds of the various dealers and try them on for fit and feel.
As suggested, the modern and latest models of the 500cc RE Bullet is quite a nice bike and sell for a decent price.
But only you can decide what's right for you. Good luck TUP

That's not mine this here is, missing some baffles. Really want to keep it stock, (has oil cooler, shortened the turnlamps") ALSO British Cycle just wrote about Dunlop Tires being the stock tires for a 79T140-D. I STILL have the original AVON Road runners hanging in the garage. I was quite disappointed when I ordered a pair and they completely changed the tread. Infact I spoke w/ Dave there and he's sticking to it. He did say they may have just put them on that particular bike. That would not surprise me. Are there original Avon R Runner's w/ the orig tread available? As you can see I'm running cheap "gumby" brand or whatever chen sheng??
