We decided to head towards Carson City, but didn't want to set up our tents in the dark so stopped just south in the town of Gardenerville, NV. We found a cheap motel and headed to the local pub we'd seen on the way into town.

Ahhh, beer. This doesn't look like my first one.

Today was a rest day as Gordon needed new tires. Both of the KLRs had off-road tires fitted and the road was taking it's toll on the tread. We booked him into a KTM dealers in Carson City. We had a few hours to spare so decided to head to Lake Tahoe. If we had more time I'd have loved to ride all the way around it as it had a fantastic road and stunning views. I even saw my first Golden Eagle. It was eating some roadkill but flew off before we could stop to take it's picture.

After lunch in Kings Beach, CA, we asked the waitress for the wi-fi password so we could update our Facebook page. Not quite hearing her correctly, we spent the next 10 minutes trying out different permutations of 'The King's Speech'. It slowly dawned on us that 'Kings Beach' was the more likely password.

We then went back to the KTM dealer for the tires.

We headed back to our motel before going out to a local pizza place. We ordered a large jug of beer between us and waited ages for it to arrive. Eventually the manager appeared and apologized for the delay by offering us a free pint of beer each. Apology accepted.

We enjoyed the national forests so much that we went back through, but taking a different route. The road was high and narrow with some tight switchbacks. Views were great but as this was bear country we kept our eyes peeled whenever we stopped t otake in the scenery.

Some HD riders also on 'our' road. I'd have liked to see how they managed the steep switchbacks.

Still quite cold up here.

Even the lakes were frozen.
