I start my two day sidecar certification course Monday. I want to get it behind me for insurance purposes; but I have to admit that I am apprehensive. I just don't do well under pressure.

Way to go Mae Lynne,

The course will be easy if you just take in what the instructors say. Don't worry about pressure, just look, listen and learn and you'll be fine. Be sure to let us know how you go!

Thank you Lee and Gary. I know I can do it; I was driving it before the engine went down and I was getting to where I felt good about it. So I know I can do it. It is just the have to perform that scares me. Where we used to live I had great places to practice and little traffic. Here in this megalopolis, I don't feel very comforatble.

And she did very well. I was there all day for the final instructions and the skills test. She missed three questions out of 50 on the written exam and only lost 4 points in the whole riding skills exam. She never hit the first cone. She was the only one to complete the sidecar portion. The other lady on the sidecar dropped out. The other students were on trikes. The instructors made her fly the car. She was scared to do it; but she did. And she was pumped!

People keep telling me I should be certified, wondered what they meant, now I know .

Big Belated congratulations from the UK :y115:

Than you all for the encouragement, support and the congratulations. Seeker, you are a brave man!! LOL

The course was really good and very thorough. The two instructors were excellent and had a genyine interest in each individual taking the course. There were three of us with physical limitaitons including an amputee. The were careful to watch that thet they did not over tax those of us with physical problems and if we needed a break; they broke the whole class. Driving a rig is is very physical and the maneuvers really tired me out. They centered the pace of the course around those of us with limitations and me in particular.

That does not mean they made the course and skills test easier. They absolutely stuck to the standars and each of us had to perform to those standards to pass the course. The sidecar portion is taken from the State of Washington which is the only state that requires a separate sidecar endorsement. The endorsement will give me a 10% break on insurance.

Beyond that, the course was a tremendous confidence builder and certainly taught me how to handle a rig. Now comes the practice and experience. Carl seems to be able to handle anything he jumps on or in. I do not have that ability. Maybe with experience I can acquire that.

Geoff, I have been certifiable for a LONG time!
