great stuff Rocky
And dont go giving me a hard time about nz place names and then throw Musquodoboit at us.:y2:

got me to thinking, everyone but Texas has some odd sounding, weird spelt or just down right impossible for some of us that speak with a Southern and/or Texas accent to pronounce. Our neighbors to the north have Musquodoboit, down south (way down south) there is Kaikoura or Paraparaumu then a little west of there is Gulargambone or Warumungu. If we skip over to the the Dark Continent we find in South Africa such places as Bloemfontein or Groblershoop. Not to be out done, to the north is such locations as Cirencester, Shipston-on-Stour or Cloongownagh. Us in the Southern States don't stand a chance when traveling, we will stay lost the whole time if we should actually stop and ask for directions. Why can't Texas have some real tongue twisters or funny named towns? All we have is. . .

Funny Place Names in Northern Ireland

Pennsylvania has a town named for every planet in the solar system.......like Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, etc...

We've also got some weird ones named by the Amish like: Bird-In-Hand, Ephrata, and Intercourse. The funny thing about Intercourse, PA is that the name used to be Confluence and they actually changed it to Intercourse.

How Cut and Shoot or Cut-N-Shoot got its name.

Cut and Shoot is a city in eastern Montgomery County, Texas, United States, about 6 miles east of Conroe and 40 miles north of Houston. The population was 1,158 at the 2000 census, at which time it was a town; the community only became a city in August 2006.

According to one local legend, Cut and Shoot was named after a 1912 community confrontation that almost led to violence. According to differing versions of the story, the dispute was either over:

The design of a new steeple for the town's only church,
The issue of who should be allowed to preach there, or
The conflicting land claims among church members.
Whatever the circumstances were, a small boy at the scene reportedly declared "I'm going to cut around the corner and shoot through the bushes in a minute!" This statement apparently stayed in the residents' minds and was eventually adopted as the town's name.

The town of Cut and Shoot gained fame when local boxer Roy Harris, a heavyweight contender, fought Floyd Patterson for the heavyweight title in 1958. Harris appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated and was featured in Life Magazine. So much mail was addressed to "Roy Harris, Cut and Shoot, Texas" that the U. S. Postal Service granted a franchise post office to the town.
