Prospective Thruxton buyer. I’ve been searching for info but was hoping someone on here may be able to help. Would like to get a 2016 or newer R/RS. I am trying to find the differences in model years and what may have been improved as the model has progressed. Used is my budget but would like to know any advantages to buying a newer model.
Thanks for any help.

Hmmm ..just humble probably incorrect thoughts but : I think the Thruxton R went through the least amount of changes of any Trumpet ever over it’s almost a decade run . When the RS came out the hp went up 6 to 103 , ECU allowed an extra 500 rpm , and the tank got a two tone treatment which was nice . I never heard anyone talking about a new improved seat which it should have had in it’s second year of production
There were lots of no cost improvements which were never done …
Will be interested to hear of changes I’m not aware of ….

If budget is the limiting factor then it's down to getting what you can afford and likely modify to suit as funds allow. If you had an unlimited amount of funds I'd say get the last Thruxton to be produced, the 2024 RS. Simply owning the last iteration is a bonus. If you compare components there isn't a major delta between the R and RS (unlike the standard Thrux). Both will put a smile on your face and a dent in your savings.

Other changes...

X-Pipe: R model? Easy change. RS? I believe the cat is welded to the exhaust headers..

Modes: R Model? Always goes back to Standard after a restart. RS? Remembers last mode.

Paint - R Model? Solid. RS? Mostly two-tone with lots of matte. (I strongly prefer the solid color.)

Engine and other bits? R Model? Shiny. RS? Lots of blacked out pieces. Preference is all about what you like but the engine cases on the R can be impacted with corrosion if you don't stay on top of them. I use ACF50 on mine and no issues.

Wheels? R model? Shiny. RS? Black.

Ohlins Springs? R Model? Yellow. RS? Black.

I rode a few examples of each and the difference in the engine performance was negligible to me. If X-Pipe isn't in the cards, then pick the one you like best. I will say, the FE is absolutely stunning!

All info has been appreciated. Now I just need to find that unicorn for a grand because I have about 10k in mods I want to do!! Every thruxton I see I find some nice detail to add. The possibilities are endless. It’s one of the things that drew me in.
