This is a bit of a long read but interesting if you have the time.

The statistics speak for themselves, so why is there an increase in female motorcycle riders?

Although motorcycle riding has been stereotypically seen as a male dominated activity, women riders are on the increase. The UK Statistics On Bikes And Motorcycle Licence Holders have confirmed there are now over half a million women holding full motorcycle licences.

According to MAG UK there are about 1 million taxed motorcycles on the
road each year, which implies there are around 1.3 million active riders. There are 5 million full motorcycle license holders in England, which means there are 4/5ths that are inactive. Of this number, there are now 525,000 female full motorcycle licence holders.

The bad news is that poor Barney is sitting in a salvage yard by now. He was totaled because the frame was bent. :-(

The good news is that I'm 50 miles into the 500-mile break-in on a 2017 Street Twin. :-)

Thanks for asking. I guess I should change my avatar photo!

Wow, Barney really took a hard hit! Harder than I thought.
Considering that, I'm beyond delighted that you weren't hurt and enjoying the new ST TUP TUP
Many would give it up as too dangerous, but I'm pleased that you're not going to let that idiot spoil your life.

With the weather the way it is, it will not take long!

Glad you are ok! Thank goodness you had your gear! Now I'm think about the air vest here as traffic is bad with VERY careless and aggressive drivers... Street twin is a great bike thou have almost 6000 miles on mine and love it .

Not to get off our side discussions but I've heard some of the riders, female, male (those that your guess is as good as mine) state a couple or 4 different reasons why the female rider numbers are up.

One of the most common reasons I've heard has been the availability of more bikes suited for smaller body frames. At first I thought this was a bunch of hogwash but I starting thinking more about the bikes so many of us started riding. Wide handlebars, long reach to the bars from the seat, tall seat height and a host of other items that just appeared or actually were hard for some folks, female and male to be comfortable on.

Another reason was the engines. Can you imagine riding someone's 2Stroke YZ125 or CR250 as your first ride? Or maybe an old Panhead? Those bikes intimidated a LOT of folks.

Now throw in the old general public reaction to a female on a motorcycle. "Did you hear about Isadora's daughter? That girl was gone wild, disrespecting her momma like that, she's liable to start smoking and drinking beer down at the pool hall at anytime! I even heard that her knickers are three inches above her knees. What's this world coming to?" Thank God that attitude has changed, I saw a girl with at least 4 inches of skin showing below her knickers.

Another reason I've heard most of the girls, ladies, women that ride with us as to the reason they decided to get their own bikes was the fact that they loved to ride and got tired of riding behind their husband, boyfriend or other male friend and they didn't want to have to wait on one of us to be available to go riding.

I will never ride without an air vest again! My local Triumph shop is pushing the Helite vests, but they are $100USD more than the Hit-Air ones. Also, the HElites have the cartridge exposed, whereas the Hit-Air covers/protects the cartridge in its own little housing.

The Japanese police force has been using air vests for about 15 years now, and the Hit-Air is directly imported from Japan.

Having actually used it in an accident, I am completely confident in its functionality and importance! I bought mine at Bikebone.

OMG, I just looked at your info -- Bikebone is in Newnan GA, about 50 minutes south of ATL proper. And all I've ever heard about Atlanta is that driving/riding is a nightmare! The head guy's name is Rueben. You could probably go and actually try on the different models if you wanted to!

Newnan is not far from Atl. Will need to check these out as well! Atl has s very scary to ride , John st have to have big b---s, even for a woman
