He confirms what I have always known about exhaust systems.
I see bikes all the time equipped with an aftermarket system and they run like crap - and are obnoxiously loud.
No thanks, I'll stick with the factory system because I like a sweet running bikes and friendly neighbours BGRIN

But that's just me; YMMV BGRIN

On a Honda forum I belong to they can't wait to spend untold amounts of money on a new exhaust system - mainly because they want more noise FACE

I changed my pipes out but still used the Triumph ones made for it. I installed the short pipes on my Speedmaster as I just liked the look and feel and I also got a bit more power out of it.

Another big problem why some people will replace the standard exhaust with the noisy one ( should the standard one fail ) is the extortionate price of a standard system. It could be hundreds of ££/$$ more than an aftermarket one.
If you're strapped for cash, you're going to go for the cheapest option.

I agree with a good bit of what he says. Replacing a full exhaust isn't needed in most cases. Most people make changes for sound. Factories design the exhaust for the bike/engine setup.

What I don't agree with is the comment on not legal for street use. This a generalization and those comments should not be made. They are illegal in some or maybe most , not all locations.

I did change my exhaust can. I did not do it expecting performance gains. I did do it for weight reduction and to be perfectly honest, the stock can was butt ugly. I would be lying if I said I wasn't looking for a different sound. I wanted a more throaty sound but wasn't interested in going LOUD. If I want LOUD all I have to do is remove the baffle but I run with the baffle inserted.

On most of my bikes that I have changed out the pipes was due to the price when the factory pipes have given up. The cost of some of the original parts for bikes is just stupid at times.
