Not really motorcycle related, but yesterday on the motorway heading home, I am motoring on at 100kph, when something catches my eye. Its a !@#$%ing 18 wheeler truck wheel bouncing my way from the other side of the motorway at 100kph and about 10 metres in the air. This thing has gone through or over 2 wire fences and across a 50 metre median strip and is flying.
Fortunately it passed between my car and the one behind me, but I could just imagine what damage it could do to a car let alone a motorcyclist. It was really something to see, this complete wheel firing across the road, it then bounced off the dirt bank on the side of the road and back across the lanes sending the cars behind me scattering. I was too far down the road to see if anyone hit it, but it seemed to stop and fall over in the middle of the fast lane. Hope that people had enough time to stop.
I have no idea as to how it became separated from the truck, but it didn’t have the hub attached so I assume the bolts sheared or the nuts came loose, either way its inexcusable that it came off.

truck are prone to loose wheel nuts its a very common thing , over here we have little green plastic pointers which are slid over the wheel nut to tell you if they are coming loose .
it is very scary to see one coming down the road at you , it would like being hit by a small car. SAD

I had a similar thing happen to me a couple of years ago while driving my car. The entire wheel came of a car and came bouncing down the road towards me.
You never know which way it may go so you hope and pray. I was lucky and it missed me.
The other car was a brand new Toyota so somebody didn't get the wheel(s) on tight.
