The first time I felt being an insignificant speck on this earth was in the middle of the Atacama Desert in Chile.
The lead riders were so far ahead I couldn't see them. My buddy Carl was so far behind me that I couldn't see him or the chase truck either.
I stopped to look around and it was nothing but rolling hills and sand as far as the eye could see which was miles and miles to the horizon. Not a drop of water; a bush or a blade of grass. Absolutely nothing.
It was eerie but also thrilling since I had never been in such a remote place before.
