Not sure who/how does these things but what a neat surprise when opened the forum this morning and then to find this and if you click on it, it takes you to Wikipedia.
That spot on the top of the page marks most national holidays Mal
Dave got a list of days from various members around the world and installed the feature.
Hes a clever old fart eh.
Question for the NZ brethren, is Waitangi Day really celebrated or is it just an excuse for a holiday?
When I was young we new what Australia Day was but largely ignored it. These days it's flags beer and bashing people who don't look like us.
This from the net may help understand,
"The tradition of having Australia Day as a national holiday on 26 January is a recent one. Not until 1935 did all the Australian states and territories use that name to mark that date. Not until 1994 did they begin to celebrate Australia Day consistently as a public holiday on that date."
Mostly an excuse for a holiday I would say. A lot of people are now calling for a NZ day so we can actually celebrate as a nation instead of sadly just bitching between Tangata Whenua and the Crown ( Long story ) while the rest just chill for the day.
