......is a deep throaty sound but not real loud, you hear it because of the lack of top end or drive line noise.

That a quote from the guy in this thread....

Remember how i used to complain that the one thing about my speedmaster i hated was the top end noise? Well, you can't imagine how happy this guy's statement about that made me ! he also posted at the BA forum and said at one point in the thread when someone asked about the power, "you have to ride one to understand. You can lug it down to walking speed in 4th gear and it will try to rip itself free of your grip all the way to 90". If i haven't told you lately....i cannot wait any longer !!!! :ya2:

Theres also several other new owners at rat and r3owners.com. The guy at R3 owners sold his R3 to get the Tbird and he's mighty impressed and glad he did ! I swear, i have never seen such raves about a bike except maybe the new Tiger. But i think i see even more with this one. I think triumph really may have hit it out of the park this time. Another thing that was surprising was something a new owner said that seems it could prove me wrong in thinking it's not going to sway many HD owners. He said after coming off the rocket to a Tbird that he's shocked at how many HD riders are flocking to his bike and asking about it. He said at one biker hangout he pulled in and the place emptied out as they all came to look at it ! I'm paraphrasing but it was something along those lines. But in any case he said the R3 never got that. Maybe triumph was right after all ! I mean, i'm still sure it's not going to put a dent in hardleys business, but maybe a notable amount WILL change over instead of my estimate of a "fraction of a percent". In any case, this bike is really making waves and i cannot wait to see what it's all about.

You mean you still don't have yours :oh: I thought you would have put at least 1000 miles on it by now :y23:

Hang in it will not be long now I am sure. some great first reports on it I must say :y18:

one thing that worries me is someone was saying dealers who have them are preorders, and they don't want to let them go because they want to have one for customers to see. So for all i know my dealer may already have it but they aren't calling me because they want to hang onto it for a while. Someone else said a similar thing....his dealer asked him to leave it for a weeks so they could show it. My dealer is too far to drive there and check. But if i don't hear from them by next weekend i just may drive there and check.

I was thinking the new 'bird would take away potential Rocket buyers more so than America/Speedy guys. I think many of us bought Americas or Speedmasters because of the price. I would love a new Thunderbird, but it is double what I paid for the America. Not to mention the "necessary" accessories. The Rocket guys are already in that price range.

I'll be looking for a low-mileage Thunderbird in a few years, I'm sure.

Lonzo....you may be surprised. The price diff for me is as follows. these are out the door prices at my dealer, tho the Tbird is estimated because they want to see the invoice first. But going by the typical markup from triumph they said....

Speedmaster $9,000
Thunderbird $12,800

Double would be $18k, so it's really a lot less than that. IMO a pretty good price for what it is.

Yes I can see them doing this for sure so I would check it :y18:

I'm afraid to pi$$ them off for fear they will tell me a higher price in hopes i take back my deposit. I did call all the dealers around here tho and no one has one yet. So theyre likely being honest with me so far.

I got my America for $7000. Someone bought it and traded it back in 3 months later. $12,499 plus local dealer prep, tax, tag, saddlebags, and a few other accessories puts it out of my price range. I was also making a lot more money back then.
I'm anxious to check out the peg position. That's the only real gripe I have with my America.

$12,499 plus local dealer prep, tax, tag

that would put it out of mine too. In fact, i asked another dealer that doesn't do the huge discounts and volume that mine does and they wanted $3k more ! I'm barely in at $12.8k, so w/o my dealer i'd probably not be getting one. In fact, i may not anyways if triumph's margin is tighter on the preorder bikes. as to footpeg location, many have said it's not as forward as the 900 cruisers, but i didn't notice that when i sat on it.
