I, for one, will be glad to see the end of the penny.
We already have a one dollar and two dollar coin and pennies just add to the weight and wear and tear on pockets.
I dump all my pennies in a jar and every few months roll them and lug them to the bank.
The government says it costs 1.6 cents to produce a one cent coin so it didn't make much sense to keep a coin that most people don't want anyway.
But they will still be legal tender for a long while yet until they are eventually phased out of existance.

Our smallest coin now is 10 cents

.

we do the same with all our coins inc the gold ones.Normally Liz will convert them at Christmas for the chrissy shopping, but with one thing and another last year it got missed. We had a big vet bill a coupla weeks back so we took them to the bank, $690.00 thankyou very much

Australia dropped the copper 1 and 2 cent coins long ago. We still have silver 5, 10, 20 and 50 cent coins that I drop into a moneybox with a LCD counter on top. I still carry gold 1 and 2 dollar coins.

This reminds me of the old joke when the bloke opens his wallet and said, "What's this miserable $20 doing in there with my $50's.:y2:

Hijack warning! :y15:

These are ours, sorry I didn't have a $50 in my wallet.

Dave, it's interesting that you don't have the Queen on your coins.
While she's only on our $5 note, she's on all of our coins.

A little further off the topic, I like our national anthem (Advance Australia Fair) but while not the case I still think God Save The Queen is the real one for me, grew up with it and that's good enough for me. Australian first, British a close second, don't ever want it to change.

Our paper money is very similar to those shown - colourful images on both sides with a combination of bygone prime ministers, the queen and Canadian scenes.
To foil counterfeiters, new bills are being issued that have an odd plastic feel to them and take some getting used to.
Our 1 & 2 dollar 28mm diameter coins are also similar to those shown, but no gold or silver in them.
Yesterday, our federal Minister of Finance "pulled the handle" to strike the last one cent piece which will be placed in the currency museum in Ottawa.

These are our $1 & $2 coins.
The $1 coin came out first and with the loon on it and almost immediately became known as a "loony."
When the $2 coin came out it almost immediately became known as a "toony."
Our other coins a 5, 10, 25 and 50 cent pieces.coins.jpg

I'm pretty sure everyone knows what US currency looks like:

The copper penny is one cent. The Nickel (used to be made of nickel) is 5 cents. The Dime is 10 cents. The Quarter is 25 cents (or a quarter-dollar). The Half-Dollar is 50 cents. And then the One Dollar coin which isn't used very much.

The paper money is pretty self-explanatory. They've all got dead guys faces on it:

There's also a One Dollar coin that I've never even seen:

And there's an American gold coin:

There are also larger denomination bills in circulation, but rarely seen:

Very interesting, I've never seen any of them before except the $1 note that's seen on tee-shirts and all kinds of stuff.
You'd have to be carefull of fake notes if accepting those larger ones.
I took very large stack of our $100's when I sold my car last mth but 3 or 4 $10,000 notes would have me saying "No, only accepting direct deposit".
