To my Triumph Talk family,

I am in awe of the love, caring and support of all of you. There are no words to express my thanks and a simple thank you seems so inadequate. But from the heart I do say thank you.

I am stunned by the awesome gift of $481.00 USD given to me by the Triumph Talk Family. At a time when the economy is tight and few of us have much disposable income – I just have no words except a simple thank you. This coupled with another generous gift from the PGR just about completely pays the cost of Mae Lyne’s cremation.

When I was laid off, I lost my life insurance on Mae Lyne. Due to her health issues, I could not find affordable insurance for her. Being 11 years my junior, I figured I would go before she did, and I had ample coverage on me to take care of her. Obviously, I was wrong. You all had an important financial part in Mae Lyne’s final journey that helped her kids and me significantly. I thank you so much.

Thursday, I received a call from John “Slowpoke†Minch. He and Bobbie (PGR) wanted to meet for lunch on Saturday. They live in New Port Richey on the west coast of Florida. I had a 10:00 appointment at the Triumph dealership to have my ECU flashed and upgraded. There is a recall on all Tiger 800’s after a certain VIN number and mine is in that range. This recall is to fix a stalling issue that affects about one out twenty bikes in that range. I have had zero issues with mine. Therefore, we decided to meet in Plant City which is about the half way point between New Port Richey and southern Orlando.

Friday, John called me with a change of plans. He told me that Leon (the PGR member who conducted Mae Lyne’s celebration of life) wanted to join us and we would meet in Apopka to accommodate Leon. That was easy, ithe location was only six miles from my home. So I told him it would take me about 35 minute to get there from the Triumph Dealership. Right after that call, another PGR member and close friend, who lives just south of Apopka, called me. I invited Gene to join us for lunch.

I got to the Gator Dockside restaurant about 12:05 fully expecting to find John, Bobbie and Gene. I did find them plus seven more PGR members including three who were not able to attend Mae Lyn’s mission; they were attending a KIA mission in Sarasota at the same time. Needless to say, I was delighted to see everyone. I soon learned they all had arrived at 11:30.

I hugged and got hugged and then I sat down. John began by telling the group that I had some awesome friends around the globe on Triumph Talk. He then proceeded to to hand my a package that came from Triumph. Unwrapping that package, I first found a polishing cloth. Hmm, must be a shiny something for the bike, I thought. I then found a brushed, silver toned jewel type box. Inscribed on the top is “MAE LYNE†on the first line. On the second line is inscribed “10/23/55 – 08/13/11.

Opening the box and the cloth bag inside, I found a gorgeous stainless steel chain. After more unwrapping, I found two dog tags with the following inscriptionsâ€

“Mae Lyne†on one side and on the other –

IN LOVING MEMORY
10/23/55 – 08/13/11
The second tag reads – “TRIUMPH TALK†on one side and “RIDING WITH AN ANGEL†on the reverse.

I broke down and sobbed. It was bitter sweet. Bitter because she is gone from me and sweet that I have such thoughtful and caring friends. My hands were shaking so John put the tags on the chain for me and I wore them yesterday and I wearing them today. I will wear them tomorrow…

Thank you all so very much. I cherish these dog tags. But even more, I cherish your thoughts and caring.

Alan (Papa) and Phyllis, his wife.

After reading that I got pretty "misty" too.
Thank you is all you need to say, Carl. You made it very clear how you feel. No more needs to be said.
We're delighted that you are delighted and just glad we could help some from so far away and help put that smile on your face.
Great pics as well - and you have some super nice folks there close to you too.
We should all be so blessed.

I took a ride a while ago and have been fighting a particle that got in my eye and wouldn't come out. This thread helped with that ! I kid you not.

Dale, and I am not being facetious, I am glad Mae Lyne and I could help.

Amen, amen.

We only wish that those gifts can in some tiny way represent how much we wanted to be there in person for you Carl.

Distance makes things difficult if not impossible.

I don't think anyone would mind here if I mentioned that at one point we thought about having Mae Lyne's name added to the National Bikers Memorial Foundation's wall (you may remember my ride report), but it being in Ohio we felt that it would be too far for you to travel knowing you'd want to be there to see it.

AJ, I know the distance made it impossible. The gifts indeed let me know how much all of you would like to have been here in person - but I knew that without the gifts. The The Bikers Memorial is a really sweet thought. But You are right; I would HAVE to be there. My travel is now more limited as the sole caretaker of my dad. That is not a complaint or a moan. That is just the way it is and I am privileged to be here with him.

Nothing I can add here would really say what i want to say.
So I will leave it blank_______________________________________________________________________________________ .

My friend, I understand that completely.

Well said Carl. A privilege it really is to pay back in a small way what our parents have done for us.

Edit,

Since the above reply I've been thinking about this caring for aging family aspect of Carl's post. We do what we can and some for personal reasons can't do as much as they'd like. I've been lucky in that I was able to purchase the house next door to my mother and now can look in and do what I can every day. Still it can be a drain, she tells me the same stories every day and I give her a smile and say "Mum you've got SSS", she laughs because she knows that SSS is Same Story Syndrome.:y16:

Hear! Hear!

I love the SSS . My dad is beset with that, too! :y23:

Well I have just been reading through this thread and it seems there is not much more I can add that has not already been said so I will also just keep it to saying that it was our pleasure to be able to help out.

As we say down here in the land of the long white cloud

Your welcome cobber, think nothing of it. :y16:

This is the awesome dog tag set that you all sent me. I wear them everyday. They are bright shiny, stainless steel. I could not get the lighting quite right and these photos do not do them justice. They are gorgeous.

Tis nice indeed. TUP I know the lighting thing....same thing happens when i try and capture the Tbird on a sunny day. Cameras cannot capture shiny metal objects in all their glory. It can be frustrating.

Ah thanks for posting those Carl they did not turn out bad at all. TUP I must admit I was a bit worried setting it up over the net and not actually being able to get a good idea how it would look
