My son is very much a teenager :y10: I picked him and friend up from school and because I was under pressure work wise and wouldn't be able to make them a snack, I offered them McDonalds (:y11: yeah I know - bad mom). BOTH boys said "No thanks, we'll make our own snack at home."
I nearly crashed the car! Here's why.
Apparently the boys at my son's school have 'voted' and rated McDonalds as 'The Most Uncool Junk Food Meal'. Go figure.

Rankings for 'cool junk' are:
Steers - SA chain, make great REAL burgers, not compressed cardboard unidentifiable meat.
KFC - I think it's gross but according to the boys, it's more 'real' than McDonalds.
Fish Aways - SA chain, only seafood - apparently this is good 'brain food'.
Any fresh, oven fired pizza.
Chinese - they have to cook it 'fresh'.

What the hell has happened to my son! Kidnapped by aliens, the body snatchers or some other inexplicable phenomenon! :y2:

If the fast food joints relied on me for their business they would have been out of business years ago.
Junk food is the right name for that stuff!!!
If I want a burger I go to small independent places as Carl mentioned. We have lots of them around here which is another reason why it's so nice to ride here:y2: You're never very far from something tasty and usually cooked to order.
Gromit, your son is to be congratulated for seeing the light.

Rocky, I think if the boys at school voted that outlet as cool they'd be lined up after school. Nothing to do with quality, just peer pressure.

Being 'cool' is the No 1 priority for a teenager. It's not just my son, but it seems as if its the boys in his entire grade so maybe it is a peer pressure thing. With my boy, he got sick after eating a MD's burger and hasn't eaten one since. But cool is cool and I'm OK with the current 'in thing'.

My youngest surprised me last week. I took my bonus and bought a big screen LED TV and surround sound system for for it. We were watching the Gator Nationals when he told me I wasted my money, we didn't need a new TV. he was right, we didn't need one but by golly I wanted one and I worked hard for that money and for once I was going to enjoy it.

I felt like a heel later when he told his mother I should have bought her a new couch instead. But I got over it when I realized I don't sit on the couch, HE does and he was trying to talk her into finding HIM a leather couch.
