We've seen triumph go from several nice looking metal badges to these cheap small plastic ugly things in the last year or so. It must be a cost saving thing, but heres what i don't get. A painted logo or decal under the clear coat looks fantastic to me. I would think this would be the easier way to do it and i think a lot if not most people would prefer it to the cheezy badges of late. They would not have to make the badges and wouldn't need any provisions on the tank to mount them. Just slap em on and then do the clear coat. They do it on some of the bikes, but not on the cruisers. They did it on one of the new bonnies, but the rest of them are still plastic badges. In fact, i can see why the bonnies would have attached badges because they are supposed to be retro. so thats even more confusing that of all the bonnies and cruisers it's a bonnie they chose to decal.

So the question....where is my theory flawed? I'm not saying it isn't, just wondering if it is because i really much prefer the decal or painted badge to the current plastic and would think that a)-so would most, and b)-it would be simpler/cheaper from a manufacturing standpoint. Enlighten me with your take.

I haven't really taken any notice of the newer tank badges. The next time I'm at the dealer I'll look closer.
I guess it's in the British or Triumph tradition to have screw-on badges. I liked the ones they had a couple of years ago.
As for clear coat over decal....I dunno. I like it on the Japanese bikes, but I think it would make Triumphs look too Japanese.
But to each his own.
