Mae Lyne and I left Atlamonte Springs about 09:15 headed for Okeechobee. IT was clear, bright, sunny morning with the promise of warming up to around 95 degrees F (36 C). I decided to forgo my ankle brace so that I could wear my boots. I paid for that decision. we took Interstate 4 through Orlando. At that time of the morning on a Sunday traffic was light and I4 and a short leg of the Florida turnpike, we missed about a million traffic lights (easier on my ankle). At St cloud we hopped of the turn pike and picked up US 441 which would take us through rural country - forests farms, and ranches - all the way to Okeechobee.

At Yeehaw Junction (yes, there is such a place), we met up with Mike who rode over from Sebastian on the east coast. we rode the remaining 47 miles to Okeechobee enjoying virtually no traffic and a good two lane country road. Our destination was Lunker's, a restaurant on Lake Okeechobee. Fuzzy picked this location and was a good restaurant. Lake Okeechobee is the second largest freshwater lake whole within the borders of the US. It is the headwaters of the Everglades.

Our purpose was to meet the Brit Iron Rebel members in Florida and form a Florida clan. All of us made it except one who whimpped out (too hot to ride). We were the last to arrive. We all enjoyed good food and great companionship. Shyguy, Fuzzy, Mae Lyne and I represented Triumph Talk. I tried to talk Steve into riding down with us; but he had other priorities and his priorities were right. We missed meeting him, though.

One order of business was to select a clan name. Several names were suggested - the Geritol Gang, the Depends Brigade - but e settled on the SSC , Sunshine State Clan. Someone suggested SSC because Fuzzy could spell it.

Upon leaving for home, Mae Lyne and I took a short drive along the lake and on the levy that protects the town in case of a hurricane. The levy encircles the lake and was constructed in the 1930's after a hurricane blew the water out of Lake Okeechobee and drowned nearly all the inhabitants in the town of Moore Haven on the west side of the lake. The lake is very shallow and it is like blowing the water out of a saucer.

We varied part of our route home and had a delightful ride on Canoe Creek Road which wanders through the back country. We had no traffic until we got to St Cloud. All total, we rode 268 miles (431 kilometers) and had a great ride and a wonderful time.

So you did go back on Canoe Creek Road. That is a great ride. I used to manage a 14,000 acre ranch in Kenansville, where you turned west. It took a long time fo rme to learn how to spell Kenansville.

Im there next time unless my legs drop off....or one of my daughters get sick again. Made the bike look all lovely too, washed her and polished her.

Ride safe

Steve, I haven't cleaned mine in a month. I have to wash it now, though; I hit some bugs.

I still don't know how to spell it and I worked for Hercules all over that country. I wouldn't mind living in that area at all. Mae Lyne liked it, too. That Canoe Creek Road is a fine ride.

Anytime now. They appear in May and September. I saw a couple of cars splattered pretty good. I do not know where they ran into the pesky creatures.

Thanks for the write up Carl, in this constant rain were experiencing for the second year running its nice to hear about sunshine and rideouts.

It is rare that I ride less than 50 miles. I make a few trips to the store, post office, etc; but if I crank up the bike I usually turn a five mile ride into at least 50 miles. One hundred miles is nothing unusual.
