When I was about 10 (50 years ago) I was about to jump into an Olympic pool carved out of a rock platform at the high tide level on one of our headlands. A crack of thunder and the flash happened simultaneously, I felt a strong pain across the back of my legs a little like being whipped. A girl in the pool was pulled out crying and distressed but with no obvious injury. We were told the lightning hit the ocean and we were hit by small off shoots from the main strike. I don't know if that's correct or if we were in a small way electrocuted. Life's a lottery.
